Wait Mancini is one of the best defensive first basemen in the major leagues this year? You really can't make this shyt up how infuriatingly clueless Dusty really is. But hell, this crap is just for fans.
You realize the gold glove award is the most absurd award baseball hands out? It's typically given to the best hitting player at the position just so long as they don't crap the bed defensiveky. Yuli wins a batting title, plays ok at first base, whammo blammo, gold glove.
Just came here to say…… Dusty is going to fk us out of a title. we all know it, unfortunately. Old MF stuck in his ways.
Those stats are based on range. Yuli's best skill at 1B is saving errors. In terms of Defensive Runs saved, Yuli was 2nd in the AL last year at 1B, only one behind Matt Olson.
And he is 3rd to last in the league this year. And 4th to last un UZR. Combine that with his terrible OPS, non existent power, and an OBP that is 3rd to last for all 1st baseman and you have the worst 1st baseman in baseball this year.
He's not the worst 1B in baseball, but he hasn't been good. Nobody here is arguing Yuli has been good this year. I think we are all tired of watching him hit soft ground balls seemingly every time somebody is on base.
First base is much like catcher in the fact that much of the value does not show up in the stats. I think Yuli is a GREAT defensive 1B. Bregman and Pena would each have a few more errors if he wasn't. That said, this is much like the kicker in fantasy football. The difference between the best and 15th best makes such little difference that there is very little value to being " the best" or "among the best" I love Yuli and all he is and has brought this organization. But because Mancini is so close behind in those areas but so massively ahead in all others, it's a crime to not be playing Trey the majority of the time at 1B.
I'm not sure why teams like hire old managers like Baker and La Russa who are way passed their prime. Especially a team as advanced as the Astros in analytics. Click's biggest regret at the end of the year might be not finding a way to get Baker to quit before the season started.
I don't think it was Click's call. Crane wouldn't fire him after an AL pennant and to save face from bad PR.
Dusty woke up and chose violence on 790. "They didn't want to hear anything I was saying. They've already made up their minds. My lineups." Dusty on the twtitter gangstas always criticizing his lineups.
Josh Innes is literally wrong about everything. That should be a case closed moment if ever there was.
