Yes there are common thread amongst all Islamic religions. That is why they are all defined as Islamic.

You seem very guilty for me not calling you out. I never said he didn't start it but really this thread has nothing to with the Islamic Center NYC and frankly it's irrelevant to the major issue. This has nothing to do with what your preference is or what you believe. It has to do with the fact that this was done from hatred and is the exact thing that does nothing but add to the violence. The "well they started it" is fu***** ridiculous because this should not be how we treat people's preference in a civilized world.

You've already admitted repeatedly that you do not know much about Islam. You have also admitted in this very thread that you did not know that many of the beliefs of individual Muslims vary according to which sect they belong to. Yet you continue to claim that you know Hakeem Olajuwon's beliefs about individual freedoms simply because he is Muslim.

It is incomprehensible to me how you cannot see these statements you continue to make as contradictory.

This is going back to his repeated assertion that he does not agree with Hakeem Olajuwon's personal beliefs about individual freedoms (despite the fact that he has never heard Hakeem voice these beliefs).

All Islamic religions teach one way or another that women are inferior to men. To what extent may vary. That is an individual rights issue. Woman have less rights then men in Islam.

Most threads go off on tangents, this is not particular to this thread.

Who said "well they started it"?

Any violence is bad, any violence based on hatred is bad. But as CometsWin rightly pointed out, we know nothing about who committed arson here. The thread starter angrily calls everyone idiots who doesn't see this as proof of "islamophobia". It is fair to point out that many more crimes are committed in the name of Islam around the globe all the time, and to wonder why there is a lot more anger about some fire and using this to call a lot of people idiots when we don't even know who was guilty of it.

Weren't you the one who brought up Hakeem? What kind of a stupid tangent is that? How would he know all of Hakeem's individual beliefs and how does it even matter?

    Source?

You seem to be making quite a claim there for someone who admittedly knows little about Islam and didn't even know that the beliefs of the different sects varied until sometime after Mathloom's post informed you of this within the last couple of hours.

As much as I love Hakeem, I don't generally bring up his name in non-bball discussions. See posts #48-49 for where this started.

Which you admit you know almost nothing about. I really doubt you've ever read it, especially considering that it is not a true Qur'an unless it is written in Arabic.

Here we go again. "You cannot criticize it unless you have studied it." I am tired of this argument.

Many more crime then what? But you are right that I should not presume something when the facts have not come out. I will reserve my insulting of the human race when the facts become more clear.

Well to be fair, he said read it, not studied it. I don't think that's an unfair assertion.

I, for one, don't criticize Scientologists...because frankly, I have no idea what they're talking about to begin with.

So you have to read the Quran before you can criticize the treatment of women in Islamic countries?

Only if you claim that women in Islamic countries are treated the way they are solely due to what's written in the Quran (see below).
