Oh no It will break some players' hearts But really, I have been waiting for that for so long. Flopping should be banned and if I were Stern I'd suspend every player who flops
No, they're going to go up. It's not offensive flopping they're gonna call. It's defensive flopping. He'll get more foul calls as players can't bail out of the way and attempt to get the offensive foul call against him. Besides that, the fine is likely to be $500 - $1000. That won't change a thing for most of these players.
Agreed, I think they will have a hard time enforcing it......and only the absolute WORST types of flops will be fined. The kind like Baron Davis did against Okur where he basically just fell and the ref saw it out of the corner of his eye and called a foul. Hilarious and illegal now. Personally, I wish the Refs could review it on court, and issue a technical foul if it is deemed a flop. Maybe a warning 1st then a tech for the 2nd offense.... DD
this will be very interesting to watch. a fine was probably about as big an initial punishment as they could start the program out with. technicals, suspensions, etc will probably have to wait (if they ever get here). if only the worst are called, then it may not change much. if too much is called, then you may punish guys who were just trying to "sell the foul" as has been brought up with the brent barry situation. if the fine is too little, no one may care. too much, and the NBAPA may not allow it. but any step is a good step right now. just bringing attention to the problem and just associating any penalty with it might have big effects. maybe players will be that much less willing to do it if their name might get out there as having been fined, or just knowing it will look bad for their credibility if they get known on record as floppers. and maybe officials will feel more free to let a flop go and not feel they have to make a call like now. usually, when the league office addresses a problem, it gets what it wants. the 16 technical rule has worked pretty well. rasheed is down from 40 per year to the high teens (and is the only one to make it to 16 i think). when kobe got his 15th with 10 games to go this year, he pretty much didn't make a peep the rest of the year. the dress code thing was hated but hasn't been that bad since. the quicker techinals by the refs problem has been relaxed but at the same time i think has reduced complaining somewhat. hopefully, this curtails flopping. and if it doesn't, we at least know the league wants to do something about it, and may impose harsher penalties if it has to.
what would that kind be this was simply a case of the Ref just screwing up. i means there was no contact. Basketball is a game that involved lot of "faking" by O & D. it is part of the game.
It should be considered similar to a technical and a flagrant. You get enough of them, you get suspended.
I think it is the ones that have no contact or are very slight and obvious flops. Scola and Battier would be ok, because they are taking a charge, maybe over emphasizing it, but it is still a charge. DD
I don´t see is as a big flopper and i think he mostly exagerates contact, this seems to be a measure to punish flops like the Kirilenko on Scola or the Kirilenko on B-Davis, those kinds of flops that has nothing similar with a foul. This will give us also a statistic on how many times a player flops, you will be surprised because Ginobili won´t be as up on that list as you wish.
Who cares about the fine? The flop hurts the opponent immediately because of blind and stupid refs. What does the fine do to help the opponent of the flopper?
