This. Starts TT and let Asik guard him from the start. If LMA doesn't get in a rhythm his confidence will drop back down to earth.
Everyone just screams double team, but you guys are not watching portland's offense. When aldridge gets the ball on the left block he is facing the basket and everyone is spacing the floor. He can see and knows where all of his players spots are. The second someone commits to the double team he will kick it to them for the wide open three. Oh harden is coming, better throw it to mathews. Parsons is close to me, better find batum in the corner/cutting to the basket. You are trying to beat an team built around aldrdge and an offense built around letting aldridge work his man. It is so predictable, but we dont have anyone that can contain aldridge. Zone defense is hard because of this reason too. Aldrdige is way too unpredictable with jones guarding him. He can back him down to the rim/paint, turn around and shoot over him when he wants, or just face up and shoot over him. He is way too difficult to defend because jones starts and lets him get it going whichever way he wants to get it going. If you want him to shoot then out asik/dwight on him. If you want him to back down and give him as little time to operate then put d-mo on him.
If he can make it efficiently, it's not a "bad shot" and therefore not a weakness. The 3pt shot is a bad shot for Omer Asik, but a great shot for Steph Curry.
hey i got an idea, how about double teaming him? since he's not a great passing big, we might force him to pile up on the turnovers. rotate on whoever has the open 3. we do a lotta switching on defense, so rotating on the open man shouldnt be a problem
He doesn't make it that efficiently most of the time. He's no prime Dirk... his 2P% this year is .461 and that includes more efficient shots closer to the bucket...
LMA hits 38.8% of his shots from 10-16 feet and 44.2% of his shots from 16+ feet on the season--that is not efficient. If you contest his midrange jumpers properly they ARE bad shots.
To all who are suggesting we stick Dmo on LMA, from a strictly size perspective sure he won't be able to easilt shoot over him in the midrange game, but don't you think (seriously) that Dmo will likely pick up at minimum 3 fouls by the end of the 2st qtr ? Dmo is certainly tall enough, but he isn't very adept at staying out of foul trouble and against a player like LMA I think he will be toast before the end of the 1st qtr. I think Mchale should have at least given it a try to this point, but I also fear we lose a rebounding advantage when Dmo is out there because he will camp on the 3pt line on offense and LMA will let hiim stay there or they will throw Wright or even Batum on him possible to allow LMA to free style on boards. I think we ought to try Powell for a short spell early and see if his bulk keeps LMA from trying to post, but then we are again back to him having a distinct height advtg like he does on TJ. Very frustrating to think the hard double is likely the only way to slow this dude down, and I fear that means the Blazers will go off from the 3 point line which they haven;t had to do thus far...
His weakness is Dwight Howard. But we still need Asik to protect the paint since Aldridge stretches the floor.
Allstars, Stars, Borderline Allstars and above average players in Lopez and Matthews in their starting lineup. The bench with Mo, Dorell Wright... is relatively thin and could be a weakness when their starters are having a bad night but more nights than not they play well.
