I heard that Nets are dumping Yi, manybe Morey can trade Cook for Yi. With Yi's athleticism and height, Rockets can use him as a centre and play uptempo ball when needed.
I'll take the long armed 6'10 Turiaf over the short armed 6'11 Gortat as my intimidating defensive cog in the middle all day. Turiaf would help big time.
This summer, i wanted the rox to give that 4m per to turiaf and let landry walk. Thats not because i don't like landry, i reallly like landry, but having turiaf play 16 behind scola and yao wouldve allowd the rox to always have a guy who can challenge shots at the rim. Some of those dunks and finishes carl gets, he could get too. His mid range jumper isn't as good, but its ok. Thats 2m for a backup 4 and 2 m for a backup c.
NIKEstrad, you need to post more my man. Now as far as Williams, I think the reason he's being brought up is that he's a realistic option. I know he's had problems, but it's a very low risk/high reward move to bring him in. I think leebigez's comparison to the Birdman is accurate as far as what Williams could give Houston. They have the same strengths and weaknesses. Now Williams did have a good rookie year, but regressed this past season. I think a change of scenery would be good for him. He would be surrounded by friends and family if he comes back home to Houston, which I would argue is more positive than negative. Houston is a more cohesive unit and more mature team than NJ so that might positively impact his development as well. Also, I think Artest would be someone that Williams would probably listen to and respect. The gm and coaches can sit him down and tell him he has to earn his mins. Start him out at like 5-7 mpg and if he shows effort and improvement, gradually increase his mins. His role could be situation and dependent on the competition as well. He has a team option for the 2010-11 season as GATER pointed out earlier in this thread so I don't see why you wouldn't take a chance on this guy.
Kristic is not a FA. He's on the OKC Thunder and he's been playing very well. OKC picked him up for peanuts and I think next season he'll hit pre-injury form. As for the topic at hand I think Kaman would be our best option at this point. The Clippers are obviously facing a glut of big men down low and kaman should be traded while he still has value. However knowing the clippers, they're more likely to be unreasonable with trade demands. We also might have to give up young legs like Landry or Lowry. Losing either would be pretty bad.
I actually think Williams coming home to Houston would be more of a negative than a positive -- things didn't work out well for Gerald Green. And I think taking a guy like Williams (or any other young big who happens to be "buy low" at the moment, Robert Swift) if they come cheap is great if the expectation is they'll sit on the bench and play garbage minutes until an opportunity arises. Basically, they need to become the big man version of this year's Von Wafer. Sean Williams may not come as cheap as lee seems to think -- if the asking price was an expiring contract or a cheap vet, you would think some team would take a flyer on him at the last trade deadline. My guess is the Nets are actually asking for something useful in return, for now at least. I just think going in and expecting a Sean Williams to give you 18-20 minutes a game or other random big who happens to be a decent shotblocker, when those minutes come at the expense of Scolandry, is foolish.
How about? Chris Anderson 6-10 PF avg. 6.4 ppg/ 6.2 rpg/ 2.5 bpg Brandon Bass 6-8 PF avg. 8.5 ppg/ 4.5 rpg/ 0.7 bpg Steven Hunter 7-0 C avg 2.1 ppg/ 1.5 rpg/ 0.3 bpg Mikki Moore 7-0 C avg. 3.9 ppg/ 3.7 rpg/ 0.3 bpg Zaza Pachulia 6-11 C avg. 6.2 ppg/ 5.7 rpg/ 0.3 bpg with the way that Chris Anderson and the Nuggets are playing he is going to stay there but it does not heart to send an offer sheet. Personaly i would like to see Mikki Moore or Steven Hunter if only because they are over 7' tall
Why not talk trade w/Bulls for Noah (and Deng/Hinrich). Bulls should re-sign Miller and are very high on Asik (King of the Blocked Shot). Before the playoff heroics, Noah was a marked man on that team.
you seen moore played recently? He's a stiff and fouling machine, might even be the worst player on your list.. not sure why you have an undersized PF on the list when we need a backup CENTER.... i'd say za za is the most realistic option, he'll be a UFA
i doubt and will be shocked if the rockets will get a quality big man. We just need to replace deke, but dont mean we'll settle for a 7 footer stiff, but i'd imagine someone who's more defensive oriented and maybe even atheletic
not sure if i agree.. cause i think the rockets will reduce yao's minutes to around 30-35... and if we are facing a big lineup (twin tower type like gasol and bynum), that's when we need a real backup center with size.
got some inside info on who the rockets might target to backup yao ... luis in houston, texas: hey steve, im a houston rockets fan and i wanted to ask you who you think is gonna back-up yao at center. 3 names come to mind antonio mcdyess, chris wilcox, and stromile swift, who do you think the rockets will go after?? Steve Kyler: Connor Atchley… they have had him a few times and like him a lot, if he's there in the second round they grab him… I wouldn't count on Darryl going after a "named" player – he's likely gonna get an Amir Johnson type guy you've never heard of, that blows you away… think about the studs he's found… Carl Landry, Chuck Hayes Aaron Brooks… Wilcox would be a good fit, but he wants to return to the Knicks... Start pondering Marcin Gortat and get your Polish Hammer shirts ready... we're hearing Houston has a lot of interest.
