true, but it's not any more of a guessing game with their injuries than it is with what contender will win it all. There isn't going to be a clear favorite next year, i dont even think there's going to be a solid top 3, there's going to be like 6 teams capable of winning it all......i just think we have a good shot at him if we pursue him.
I am pretty sure McDyess actually does like Detroit and would probably stay if given the chance and the locker room over there not being completely destroyed this off season.
Detroit remains an option, but the team’s struggles may lead to McDyess choose to play elsewhere. “I hate to sell myself short of anything at this point in my career,” McDyess said. “So I have to keep all my options open.” […] “I just have to see how everything is going to go in the summer with this team, and kind of go from there,” McDyess said. “But like I said, it’s flattering that there are some teams that still think I can help them win. I definitely feel I have some options.” Again, i think it may come down to winning a ring, at this point he probably is itching for one...i also read the spurs are planning on pursuing him and/or Sheed...
Hehe, Ben Wallace would be the 2nd coming of Deke. It would be nice, however for the future of our beloved Franchise, I think Morey chould look at the possibilities of acquiring someone younger. If the options are exhausted, morey can start looking at the vets.
Maybe we can purchase a 2nd round pick and find someone to fill the paint that way. We could draft a project and let them split time with dorsey/hayes depending on matchup's and how quickly they develop. I believe we can have a backup center by comittee depending on matchups and limit Yao to about 32 mpg in the regular season.
We need an experienced backup. Dorsey has been unlucky with his injuries, but DM has clearly expressed disappointment in him.He has a long way to go, Chuck can't do it his own. Deke is gone.
He's entering the last year of a contract that pays him over $14M. However, there is a slight chance that Cleveland could buy out Wallace's contract in order to save a few million dollars in luxury tax. If that happens, I would definitely take a long look at getting Big Ben as a backup to Yao. Plus, he could mentor Joey Dorsey for a year and groom him to be . . . well, the next Ben Wallace. Again, I think the Rockets may end up finding its best options for a backup center next season will be from among the waived or bought out veterans.
Let's establish some benchmarks. The player has to be healthy, because health is the entire reason he's being acquired. He's got to be tall, because the Rockets have a height deficit (though Morey has downplayed this). He's got to be athletic, for match up issues. Those are the big three, health, height, and athleticism. Now the secondary, youth would be a bonus and so would a high skill set, so that's five points of consideration, but any player that matches all five would be virtually untouchable, so what do you sacrifice - height, health, athleticism, youth, or skill? Oh, and I forgot to mention toughness. That's six, and how many players match all six? The Rockets won't get the perfect big man, and it will be interesting to see which of the six attributes they prioritize, and which they're willing to sacrifice to the God's of practicality and necessity.
Marcin Gortat would be an amazing backup for Yao, that being said though, there will be many bidders for him.
Why not trade barry for s williams who is a chris anderson type and sign mbenga, magloir, mihm,or elson for vet minimum? Nets arent using him and the rox arent using barry, so it helps both and the other center is a bigger slower guy that could play for yao when he misses a few games. Williams is the atheltic, high energy, guy to play with the 2nd team to help the tempo pushers.
Sean Williams would not beat Chuck Hayes for minutes. He's trouble off the court, and not that great on it -- he spent most of this year in the NBDL learning to play small forward, despite no handle nor a jumpshot. I don't want a guy playing center who would rather be playing small forward.
I wonder if the Rockets can Scola a big man away somehow... I think the two gents below might be NBA-ready: David Andersen Robertas Javtokas (I'll let you guess which one Javtokas is) There are some free agents out there, too, like the Lavrinovic brothers: I am rather worried about the whole "spending 2 years in prison for rape" history, though. Daryl Morey was spending some time scouting in Europe... so perhaps he has an idea as to which bigs over there can be had at a reasonable price, what with the Euro teams not being in the best economic shape and all (see various reports about players not getting paid on time).
