Does it really matter how I was "talking" to the lady? In my case, it wasn't that hard to communicate with the lady. I made gestures of "eye and ring" and pointing to the restroom as a question of "Did you see a ring in there?" I repeated and mouthing it to made sure she understood me. She said "No, I didn't see it" I am able to read lips. This is same thing if the other person doesn't speak your language. You find ways to communicate despite the communication barrier. Sure, I did.
I think it's messed up for a cleaning lady to get fired over a 50 dollar ring, but then I wouldn't want dishonest cleaning people working around me. It's your friend's word against the cleaning lady's. What if I lost my laptop after taking a dump while surfing on Clutchfans? Then I wouldn't be able to go on the net while taking a dump anymore. Wait what? On the bright side, at least the President of Russia didn't walk off with your Superbowl ring.
So, the guy who told Angela that he saw you talking to the cleaning lady was able to make out your gestures enough to know that you lost a ring? I totally believe you Lady_Di, but I do not believe this Angela person. I think she is the guilty party. How in the world did Angela hear through the grapvine from some guy who saw you gesturing to a cleaning lady that you lost a ring and then send you an instant message asking about it? That does not add up at all, I'm sorry, but Angela will be sporting that ring this weekend. That is my opinion. Free the cleaning lady!
The guy and cleaning lady are friendly, I've seen them talk in the break room before so she must have told him that I was looking for a ring. The guy told Angela and I have no idea why he did that. I have a reason to believe her because if I took something, I wouldn't tell the person ANYTHING. So if she did take it, she wouldn't have mentioned it. It's stupid if I go tell the person, "oh i saw her take it" when I took it myself to keep myself from getting involved in this mess. Maybe I'm naive but I believe her.
I worked at UPS once and they fired a really good loader because he took what he thought was a funny bumper sticker from an open box. Some places are of the school, if you steal a small item you will (eventually) steal a large item. Or to summerize...Stealing is stealing.
But if the cleaning lady stole it, why would she mention to someone else that you were looking for it?
It wasn't the lady who allegedly stole it. I asked the other lady. The alleged thief was busy with something in the break room. I should have asked her too right there but I asked her later on with Angela when I found her downstairs when she was leaving.
what exactly is your issue with this thread or situation? i think it's fair to say you've expressed your point sufficiently...now you're just digging and pestering for the sake of it. not that it's any of my business, i was just wondering how this thread got to 5 pages so quick, and now I know...
Once I thought I left my daughter's shoe's were at my sister-in-laws house. I swore I had left them there, then I found them at my house. I was wrong! It happens. I really though they were at her house before I found them, but I didn't go crazy over it and file a police report on her. I misplaced them. Maybe you misplaced your ring IN THE TOILET. For real.
Some of you are being unnecessarily harsh on the original poster. Even though there is no concrete evidence indicating the cleaning lady took the ring, I would rely on the word of a good co-worker and take it from there. If the ring had that much personal value to you, I don't think you were wrong for filing a report. Now you said it was a $50 ring. Can you replace it by going out and purchasing an identical one or is it a hard to find item? I'm sorry you lost something that was important to you, but did you really need to take it off to wash your hands thoroughly? In the future I wouldn't do that. Also, You said that you have no sympathy for people who steal whether they are rich or poor, but I think it's okay for somebody to steal food for example in order to feed their family.
