Seems like all-time talent kinda goes in circles. 50s - weak(Mikan, Cousy, Neil Johnston) 60s - strong(Russell, Wilt, Oscar, West, Baylor) 70s - weak(Kareem...Frazier) 80s - strong(Magic, Bird, Moses, McHale, young Jordan, Hakeem, Barkley) 90s - weak(Jordan, Malone, Hakeem, Robinson) 00s - strong(Duncan, Shaq, Garnett, Kobe, Lebron, Dirk, Wade) 10s - weak so far(Lebron, Durant, maybe Anthony Davis in the future)
Probably better than Howard? Lol I'd probably say Isaiah, Drexler have the worst arguments for Top 20. Miken and Pettite were before my time so hard to speak on them too much... just don't want to forget them because they were great. Highly disagree with Moses, Karl, and Ewing. You probably don't know much about their primes. Keep in mind as awesome as Dirk is offensively, his defense was below average. He rebounded pretty decent earlier in his career, but that quickly fell off.
I guess for arguments sake, Shaq won't get credit for the 90's. Eventhough '92-'93 was his rookie season.. he won a scoring title, and posted some of the best numbers of his career in the 90's. Barkley also won't get credit for the 90's eventhough half his career was 90's, his MVP was 90's, his deepest playoff runs were all 90's. Strictly for arguments sake.
On an all-star team, you want someone who's going to run down the court and fire up a shot, instead of the greatest facilitator to ever live? Nah. <iframe width="420" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/ueZ6tvqhk8U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
I agree with Shaq. I didn't include him because I was trying to narrow my team to a 4 yr span to be fair to the 10s, so I chose 92-96 For talk of decades, it's usually clear which decade is a players best. And there's nothing wrong with including someone in two decades As for Barkley. Saying he won't get credit for the 90s is silly, not only ford all the points you mention, but also because he was in the same draft class as dream MJ and Stockton and after Drexler
It's not Stockton and 4 scrubs, a team in which Stockton > Payton. It's a PG and 4 of the best players ever. Except for Malone, the other 3 can all handle the ball and get whatever shot they want. I'd rather have a shutdown defender, in Payton, on Paul than a fantastic passer in Stockton.
LOLs. It's true. And Randolph, Noah, Irving, Parker, Francis, Wallace and Davis can be first names, too, no? And fwiw, Love is a girls first name. And Ming is a first name too. And the reigning Coach of the Year is Karl.
You don't have to believe, it's true by a huge huge margin....and that will probably never be surpassed just like his assist total
Glad to see that I am not the only one who notices it. Every draft for the past 5 years I look for prospects with a first name for a last name and it seems like it never fails. I remember when Paul George was in the draft a few years ago, I didn't know a thing about his game but I kept thinking, come on Morey, you've got to notice this trend, you're a stats guy. Get that George guy and sure enough, dude turns out to be the next big star. It's pretty cool really.
Speaking of "killer instinct", that is the one thing that the 90's team has all over the players of today and I mean that in terms of Brain Typing. The very best brain type in any sport is the ISTP nicknamed "The Serial Killer" brain type. The second best is typically close between the ISFP and the ESFP. Look at the lineups below: POSITION ___________ 90'S _______________TODAY POINT GUARD_______STOCKTON ISTP_________PAUL UNKOWN SHOOTING GUARD ____JORDAN ISTP_________ BRYANT ISFP SMALL FORWARD______PIPPEN ISFP__________JAMES ESFP POWER FORWARD_____MALONE ESTP_________DUNCAN ISFP CENTER____________OLAJUWON ISTP_______ HOWARD ESTP "Serial Killers" always win in sports. I give a distinct advantage to the 90's team. Morey knows about this and uses it as he trained under Danny Ainge who is one of the biggest supports of Brain Typing in sports. I believe Harden is an ISTP.
Wow. I would not have picked those lineups. Fit is as important than talent. However LBJ is rapidly closing in on the greatest player of all time. Maybe it is prejudice but I would not pick Kobe to be ball boy. A decade by decade comparison leaves many questions. Training, conditioning, nutrition, coaching. The most successful player - MJ for sure. The most dominant - Wilt. The most athletic - Wilt again. The most skilled - Hakeem perhaps? The best PG - Nash? The most versatile - Magic or LBJ. The best player of all time - LBJ possibly. Just my two cents. In the 90's I might be tempted to go with Barkley. I question the actual difference between the Dream and Howard. Is it actually all that great? I do not know. Anyway OP your question has no firm answers. It serves no purpose other than to get us fans to ask questions. Which is OK. But in a finals match up I am picking the Heat over everyone. Period.
^ you question the difference between Hakeem and Howard ? Sorry about that. Guess you never saw Hakeem play
I did have season tickets in 88, 89, and 90. So yeah I saw the Dream play a lot. In May of 90 the moving vans showed up and I was to never return to Houston. That certainly did not mean I did not follow the Rockets closely.
Unbeatable lineup there defensively. And offensively, GP was athletic enough to handle any PG today and could distribute. MJ and Hak would be the two main unstoppable scoring options, Pippen would hold his own and The Worm would grab every single board and never need to shoot. Love that lineup vs anyone
Sure, agreed. It's all pretty subjective though most have a hard stance one way or the other. Just thought it would be good conversation.
