This may have already been proposed a number of times on here in a number of ways but I just just wanted to see what y'all thought of the talent between yesterday and today. I know we are all biased and probably most of us toward the older generation (as I am) but just wanted everyone to look at the teams by their talent and competitiveness not just by what they accomplished. POSITION ___________ 90'S __________ TODAY POINT GUARD_______STOCKTON_________PAUL SHOOTING GUARD ____JORDAN_________ BRYANT SMALL FORWARD______PIPPEN__________JAMES POWER FORWARD_____MALONE_________DUNCAN CENTER____________OLAJUWON_______ HOWARD Now, there are some obvious huge discrepancies in talent on some of these matchups (Olajuwon vs. Howard), but others are more difficult to pinpoint (Stockton vs. Paul). The ultimate question is which rules govern the game. The 90's rules or the modern day rules. I think either way, the 90's team crushes the team of Today but who knows. Bryant, James and Duncan are incredibly talented. Useless Observation: Why do nearly all of the greatest at their position of the 90's last name end with an N (see above, including RODMAN, ROBINSON, PAYTON) or some variation of that (MALONE) while the greatest stars of today nearly all have a first name as a last name (see above, and lets not forget WADE, ANTHONY, PIERCE, ROY (if he had not been injured) and up and coming GEORGE). Seems like if you drafted a player with a first name as a last name barring DURANT and NOWITZKI and a few others, you had a star. Maybe I am just cherry picking but it's something I have noticed for a while now.
00's were obviously more talented than 90's, Duncan, Lebron, Kobe, Shaq, Wade, Garnett, Nowitzki,..all top 20 all-time players.
No way, '90s had greater talent/skill sets at virtually every position. Shaq is as much a part of the '90s game as post-2000.
POSITION ___________ 90'S __________ TODAY POINT GUARD_______STOCKTON_________PAUL SHOOTING GUARD ____JORDAN_________ BRYANT SMALL FORWARD______PIPPEN__________JAMES POWER FORWARD_____MALONE_________DUNCAN CENTER____________OLAJUWON_______ HOWARD Pippen, in theory, would be the lock down defender on James, while Kobe may be able to hold Jordan, Howard would not be able to stop The Dream. All things considered the series would go to 7 and the game would be won or loss on a Bryant game winner (because Lebron is not Clutch)
i doubt that kobe can guard prime jordan and while duncan will dominate on offense i think malone could score on duncan with no problem as well. 7 game series. but would bet on the 90s
I agree with no Howard and put Duncan @ the 5, but then move Lebron to 4 and Durant to the 3 (or vise versa).
Jordan never went to a Game 7 in the Finals, and he wouldn't with this one, either. 90s in 6, easily.
LeBron will play most his prime in the 10's. All his championships and most of his MVPs will be 10's. Half of Shaq's prime was the 90's. Garnett and Duncan were 00's, but they were All-Stars in the 90's. Both Wade and Dirk's Top 20-ness is debatable. Not so obvious
MJ Kareem Wilt Dream Russell Malone Malone Magic Duncan Bird West Oscar DRob Barkley Kobe LeBron Garnett Ewing Isaiah Durant Shaq That's 21 I'm not saying Wade and Dirk aren't top 20... but easily top 20... nope.
Jordan and Pippen played off of each other offensively and defensively and on top of that.... the Dream. Game over!
Heck, I'll take just the 1984 draft class over any era of players: Jordan and Stockton in the backcourt with Alvin Robertson the sub. Dream at Center backed up by Kevin Willis Barkley and Sam Perkins at forwards backed up by OT, Michael Cage, and Jerome Kersey. Additional bench: Jim Peterson, Jay Humphries 3 of those are arguably the best at their position ever and Barkley is in the top 3-4 at his position. Plus, we got length and muscle and a shutdown backcourt defender in Alvin. Weakness would be defending the three, but Perkins and Kersey and Jordan should be a serviceable group.
