I didn't know "home court advantage" meant "gift wrapped win by the refs" This game is just like the game 6 of 02 WCF, this time with the Lakers receiving the short end of the stick. Games like this make me wonder why I waste my time watching this bull**** league. And I'm not even close to being a Lakers fan by any stretch of imagination. Fouls: Celtics 10, Lakers 17 FTA: Leon Powe 9, Lakers 2 Refs turning a blind eye to Rondo running over Gasol for the steal is the play of the game.
This is what I was thinking around the end of the 1st quarter - maybe Lebron (arguably the next best player behind Kobe) getting shut down for the majority of the Cavs series wasn't a fluke. Slowing down Kobe here and Lebron last series is a testament to their defense. Of course there's still a second half and this could go out the window, but I'm impressed so far. I'm also impressed to see Pau is very aggressive tonight and keeping the Lakers from being even deeper in the hole right now.
I'll give the Celtics defense credit for pretty much daring Every-Laker-Not-Kobe to make shots because it's worked really well but IMO the person that's holding Kobe down is Bad Kobe. Bad Kobe's the prick we all used to hate where he would try to win the game by himself and was last seen in the 2nd half of Game 1. He's trying to perform heroics when it's not really needed when you got an All-Star center down low. Bad Kobe plays the best defense on Kobe.
I'll admit I've seen several instances where I've thought 'that seems like an 'immature selfish Kobe' play'. We'll see. Perkins with another opportunity to get an insta-dunk but is too slow and gets fouled again.
I've seen enough of the 3rd quarter. The Lakers didn't bring their "A" game today and it doesn't look like they have it in them to take this game over. If the Celts keep playing defense, put this one in the books.
What happened to that deep Lakers team everyone was hyping? The Lakers won't have a chance in this series until the Laker's offense becomes less Kobe centric and use the triangle offense more.
They are deep and talented, that is for sure. But they also have a bunch of inconsistent and soft players like Gasol, Odom, Radman, Vujacic. And they are a very young team.
This game is most likely over. The refs gave the Celtics a huge advantage with their poor officiating in Boston's favor and the Celtics turned that into an insurmountable lead with their very good play. 28 free throw attempts to 4 in a Finals game!?!?! That's just ridiculous. If I remember correctly, Celts had about 7 more free throws than LA last game too. I don't think Boston's being more aggressive either, the Lakers just aren't getting calls. It'll be interesting to see how the games in the Staples Center are officiated. LA usually gets the benefit of the doubt and then some at home. It's sad that we have to talk about officiating during the Finals.
The refs control who wins and loses. We should have won the mavs series if they called that play on finely. That weak foul on scola cost us the game. The no call on barry gave the lakers the game.
Its an illusion, there is only a 4 foul differential (LA 22, BOS 18) in the celtics favor. They have so many more free throws because they break down the laker defense for easy baskets and force the lakers to take so many bad jumpshots.
