1.) Rock. 2.) StoneCold. 3.) Macho Man Randy Savage. 4.) Hulkamania 5.) Rowdy Roddy Piper ("They Live" is absolute money)
I'll agree with this, except flip Hogan and Macho Man. I still remember watching Smackdown in the late 90s and Foley/HHH were in a title match, Austin had been out of action for like 3/4 months. This is before the interwebs had taken off so surprise returns were in vogue, Stone Cold came out during the match to the loudest ovation I've ever heard. The only thing that compares, for me, was Kent's walk off homer in 2004 for the Stros. I mean the place exploded and people went NUTS. I think it's 1A/1B with Austin and Rock.
I was almost about to post them as 1a 1b Hulk Hogan I always hated, good or bad guy but I recognize he's probably the most popular ever. MACHO MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/YK7J0jYKpiY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Rock knows how to work the mic and has ring presence, but he needs to work on his wrestling skills. his sharpshooter is cringe worthy.
Hate to admit it but I think Austin in his prime was more popular than The Rock. 1) Austin (just look at the majority of hardcore prowrestling fans) When I went to watch it live a couple of times it was like a Dub T reunion and I saw enough people wearing camouflage I thought I was a hunting/gun trade show. 2) The Rock. 3) Ultimate Warrior/Hogan 4) Shawn Michaels/HHH 5) Undertaker/Bret Hart Honorable mention: The Bad guy Razor Ramon. Such a cool character.
I was at WM17, and the pop that Stone Cold received was deafening! They built up the suspense by turning off all the lights in The Dome, and there was about 10 seconds of silence. Then, when the glass broke and that guy came down the aisle, I couldn't hear myself think.
I was there too and your right, it was LOUD. I still think they messed up Austin's heel turn. I really didn't mind it but that should have been a classic face/face match although I do remember Rock getting heat for most of the match, obviously being Stone Cold country. I just never really liked the way they did it, just never felt right to have Austin turn at that particular WM.
Great memory. I didn't want Austin to win at all, but I couldn't help but cheer during that match when something badass happened like when he gave Rock the Rock Bottom. I was yelling the whole 30 minutes. Then he turned heel
Only one thing could trump the announcement of the new Radiohead album and that was, yup you guessed it, the ROCK coming back to the WWE!! Like others, I quit watching when he left. Now, I may have to watch it again. And if anyone thinks this post is being funny doesn't know the "true" Manny. Just ask Rockets2K about my fandom of the Rock. It was because of the Rock that I used to call random posters on the BBS "jabronis".
goldberg? the guy who has the personality of a ring post...maybe because he speared a ring post. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/-KCjg118gwk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
When listing past great wrestlers, can't believe how little these guys get mentioned. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YyEToSg5upA&feature=related

I still remember when him and Mankind were a tag team duo. Their love hate relationship was some of the best years of wrestling. I can't recall the specific event but having the Rock/Mankind come out of nowhere to save the other was priceless. I forgot how great he was with a mic.
lmao this youtube comment is so awesome "this is epic, this is like every real fan's dream, it's like 2pac comming back and dissing lil wayne" hahahaha
