    The X prize had roots from NASA. Congress intervened calling it a misappropriation of funds. This is despite admonishing NASA through hearings of not being fiscally responsible when these contests offer the private industry incentives for innovation with government guidance.

    There were similar prize contests that were shut down by Congress because they didn't have their grubby hands over the money. Most likely because they couldn't take credit for it.

    While being good news, this story makes waves because it's designed to.

    I like the idea but there is one big problem. Even if someone could come up with a hydrogen powered car that cost under $20K there's still the problem of where do you fill up your tank. I think its a great idea to develop the technology but we need to look to building the infrastructure too.
