I ordered a G2 today over the phone. I actually held one in the afternoon. I didn't get to play with it, but I really liked the size and feel of it. (That's what she said.) Here's a photo I took of it.
landlord, try putting android on your HD2, mines running it now, pretty slick. I've been using windows mobile since i had a HTC Dash and a HTC diamond, andriod is just the better OS option for the HD2
For those of you with Android on your HD2s, how did you get it on there? And how functional is it? What features work/don't work? I'm just a little weary about wiping all of my current stuff on there.
you dont have to wipe anything, just go to http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=735 download a build ( i suggest a CM6 based build ) unzip the file and put the "Android" folder on the root of your micro sd card. then all you have to do is go to the folder using windows mobile's file explorer and click clrcad (run it it wont do anything) then run haret.exe. this will boot andriod. if you dont like it dont worry, this doesnt do anything to windows mobile, if you restart you will be back to windows mobile.
oh and regarding whats working, everything on the cm6 builds works save for the notifications light and the light sensor. you may have some issues regarding battery life but for me i haven't ran into any issues.
no problem, just dont get fooled into paying anyone to do this for you, lots of scams about putting android on the hd2 on ebay and craigslist.
It looks like a Nexus One. Substitute trackball for trackpad, and add sliding keyboard. Interesting... I've been off my mobile phone/android game lately. Time to read up
Can I ask which build you downloaded and used? I've tried the shubcraftv1.5 build but I'm not able to make phone calls (either buggy sound or no sound). Any ideas? Thanks again.
I use shubcraft as well with no issues. I use the one with RMNET though. Also it's recommended you flash your phone to a different windows ROM. I use chucky lite. format your microSD card to with the 8192 allocation size before copying the android folder on there. put this on http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=618787 and then install shubcraft http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=740963
i would just like to add, changing your windows rom is much more risky then messing with android. be careful and read everything 3 times.
I've had it with AT&T... can't stomach another 2 year contract, even for an iPhone 4. I'm going to a T-Mobile store today to check this phone out. My only concern is that it doesn't play nice with OSX.
Yeah, that is why I usually stick with phones made by HTC. Mainly because of the xda forums has such a huge community that whenever you have a problem, someone else likely had it and found a solution.
I was seriously considering buying the G2 - and I still might - but ever since I listened to the good folks here and put Android on my HD2 I've been pretty pleased. In fact this was the main thing I was waiting for when I first purchased the HD2. But now some of these new features on the G2 are pretty enticing. And I do miss the slide-out keyboard from the G1 days...
Just got the Vibrant. Going to go sign up for T-Mobile service tonight. The phone itself, which I bought off craigslist, didn't come with a SIM card. Will they give me that at the store?
