I agree both have off nights, but the fact is they are both young. Conroy has potential and if were anywhere near looking like a playoff team or didn't have to drag along Cook's contract, I'd see us picking him up but right now the team is really playing for the next season. I can see us going for another PF because we desperately need of young big men this season and next, should we not be able to do something next season in FA and especially so we don't get desperate and over pay some mook.
Dorsey said he was a linebacker with a basketball. I guess with all the fouls he commits, he'd be better playing linebacker on the football field.
You're right, he's given us more to vote for in one game than Dorsey has shown in two years. That's exactly why I voted Pops.
T-mac can be our third piont gaurd if we need him to, so let Conroy go since we need more size in the middle and keep them both.
I'm with ya! Temple is going to be a player. Out of all the other players, he brings something none of the others doesn't at the point; length. In addition, he is very smart on the ball and he runs the court well. He just needs to find his offense. Here is my list of who makes it; 1) Yao 2) T-Mac 3) Battier 4) Scola 5) Brooks 6) Landry 7) Lowry 8) Ariza 9) Chase 10)Cook 11)Taylor 12)Pops 13)Temple 14)Hayes 15)Andersen
Dorsey just doesn't get it. For every good thing he brings to the team, he gives it right back. I think he had 6 rebounds last night, to match his 6 fouls. Plus, we have too many small centers who can not shoot; Hayes, Dorsey, and Pops. One is actually enough but if I had to choose two of the three, it would be Pops and Hayes.
I agree. David Andersen can't guard a chair. Even though Dorsey fouls a lot, at least they have to earn their points from line. I think Dorsey sticks with the team b/c of his contract and the fact that he hasn't played in a real NBA season yet. Who knows how he will be playing by the end of the year. If I had to choose, I would let Dorsey develop and go with either Conroy, McCants, or Temple.
I know we have to pick b/t Dorsey and Pops, but i agree with the statement above^ I just don't see the need of another small point guard (conroy), specially with McGrady coming back, its going to be like having a third point guard with size..... 1) Yao 2) T-Mac 3) Battier 4) Scola 5) Brooks 6) Landry 7) Lowry 8) Ariza 9) Chase 10)Cook 11)Taylor 12)Pops 13)Dorsey 14)Hayes 15)Andersen I vote we keep both we need as many big men as possible..... -rocketblaze
Aaron & Kyle are 6'0. Conroy is 6'2 - not tall for a PG, but not short either. http://www.nba.com/rockets/roster/
So the Vipers are now owned by the Rockets, which I believe might increase our flexibility. I imagine what will happen is anyone who doesnt make the team will be offered a deal by the Rockets, via the Vipers, essentially circumventing cap and roster limit rules.
Got a question about this, lets say that Pops is the one signed but they also like Conroy, and I'm just using examples, can they sign Conroy to the d-league and then send Taylor down there and have Conroy use his spot on the roster? Thanks for the help.
Conroy has been Solid in his limited minutes and fits the Rockets like a Glove. He appears to be the most polished player of those competing for the roster spot. Considering that the Rockets don't really have an emergency backup PG such as TMAC at the moment, it makes a lot sense to keep Conroy under the Rocket's Wings... Playing Conroy also allows Brooks to play more of his natural position as a shooting guard Dorsey was Impressive in the summer league as the Leader in Rebounds by a wide margin and was 3rd in Blocked Shots...He has also been a more Efficient Rebounder per minute than Pops in the Preseason... however I believe that Pops is more of an Immediate Benefit to the Rockets as Pops is also a Very Strong Rebounder and a more Efficient Shot Blocker. Both need to improve their Team and individual D-Fence, post scoring, develop a mid range jumper, but currently Pops Mensah Bonsu is clearly a more Disciplined and Smarter player than Dorsey as Bonsu commits less turnovers and less fouls than Dorsey per minutes played, most likely because Pops has more NBA game experience and coaching. With more game time and coaching on the Rockets, the both of them will Improve their games as we saw with Scola. This is the ideal choice I would be seeking for the Rockets.... I am glad that the Rockets have increased their flexibility and management options via the Vipers but at the same time I am a little disappointed that this didn't happen earlier such as last year since we may have had the option to Better Develop Strawberry (who I thought had a more Well Rounded game then Wafer), Harris (a similar game style to Hayes and Landry), Leunen, Newly, Eliyahu, etc. with Vipers in D League and see how they fare with that level of competition without counting them on the 15 man NBA roster. Considering that the Rockets need to improve their D-Fence particularly in the Post as well as Rebounding, I think it makes the most sense to keep both Pops and Dorsey on the roster. I would like the Rockets to have Conroy, Beck, and Temple play in the D league and call them upon necessity, since Dorsey really needs the NBA experience to refine his game unlike Conroy. If Dorsey does not improve over the course of the year, or if Pops/Taylor disappoints this season, and or a move is made to free up a spot (i.e. Cook has been contributing in the preseason, but I would not be very upset if we traded or released him for Conroy) then the Rockets should Seriously Consider having Conroy play on Rockets even as a 3rd PG Temple has potential and some good qualities such as being a capable defender, intelligence, discipline, versatility, length etc. Hopefully Temple and Beck will play more in the final preseason games, as Beck was Solid in his first and only preseason game as a Rocket vs Pacers.
As far as I understand if Taylor is sent to the D-League, his guaranteed roster spot cannot be taken by someone else unless he is waived or traded.
I keep both. I like Pops because he is very active on the court and I like to keep Dorsey for his rebounding ability and his toughness inside. I know Dorsey gets into foul trouble a lot but its because he is an aggressive player and that is what I like about him. Dorsey can help fill in the void for Yao even though we still need Yao, Dorsey can grab some major boards.
Do they really need another 6'9" backup PF/C? Morey, bring us a 6'11"+ C! I'll even settle for 6'10.5".
