His style was: dominate the ball, bad passing-high TO, bad shooting, gambling mediocre defense - you are right there are few teams in which that style is more likely to be tolerated. You will see their GM's in the Lottery in a few weeks.
I love all the mythological analogies in this thread! Sam and DD are both mortals punished by the gods when it comes to V-Span. DD is Tantalus always tempted by what he sees as the greatness of V-Span that is always just a bit out of reach for him. Sam is Sisyphus who can't resist rolling up the boulder that V-Span sucked only to have it roll back down again mount Dakota with Sam then rolling it back up again and so on.
JVG didn't know how to utilize V-Span. His offensive scheme was virtually nonexistant. It involved T-Mac handling the ball or giving it to Yao in the post. The rest of the players were relegated to three point shooting. JVG did not try to use Spanoulis to his strengths because he couldn't. JVG's fatal flaw is that he will not adjust his style to fit the team. Adelman is better than JVG in that aspect. Remember when Adelman first came here and he thought he was going to go high octane and ball movement like his Sacramento days? It didn't work so Adelman changed his coaching style to fit that of the team. Could you guys see JVG doing that? Spanoulis would have played MUCH BETTER his rookie season on a different team with a different coach. No doubt about it.
He would be hard pressed to play much worse. I don't want a guy like him on my team. He had his chance to give it a 2nd run -- both with us under Adelman and with the Spurs. He decided to take his ball and go home. You don't win with a team full of guys like that.
Disagree - it's all about fit. He would have been a good fit for the Lakers yesterday - He has shown that he can play that type of game. In fact, he would have slid right in to the starting line-up so seamlessly that you wouldn't even know he was there; you'd just think Sasha Vujacic had his hair cut and then transplanted onto his neck.
Sam, that's not fair. Vujacic is a career 38% 3P shooter and had a better than 3/1 AST/TO ratio this season. Spanoulis is a poor man's Vujacic.
Disagree - I'm talking about the 2009 Playoffs Vujacic - His 24% shooting is well within the capabilities of the Zeus of the Barnyard.
VSpan would be doing very well if he had the sack to stay in the NBA, I hope he comes back, so I can LORD over all the non-believers. LORD...LORD...LORD...I SAY !!!! RUE THE DAY.....people...RUE IT ! DD
I pledge to rue the day that Spanoulis returns to the NBA. That will not be a hard promise to keep, if it happens, but I'm not too worried. The lack of hay on NBA floors means that the players faster than him (99%) can actually exhibit that physical advantage.
that is/was his biggest problem. I think he can play, but while he was here he didn't have the testicular fortitude to make it.
