not really...many players played well against those horribly constructed USA teams. Our guys came in with very little practice and preparation for each game so it's really misleading to say X player beat us, especially when it was obvious they had no idea what his strengths and weaknesses were. In regards to the discussion, I don't think his accomplishments outside of the NBA mean much. There are guys who couldn't make it in the nba who go overseas and play well and i think there are guys in the nba who wouldn't be able to make it in europe. FIBA rules are different. Duncan is considered one of the best PF's ever and he was much less effective under those rules.
We got Spanoulis already. Except he's named Kyle Lowry. Spanoulis's NBA projection (IMO) is a pass happy form of Kyle Lowry. Not really too prolific, NBA mid-level guard and below. A right handed Beno Udrih type. Still the Rockets back then , just like now, coulda used that. Maaaybe if Van Gundy woulda got him to even that level Spanoulis mighta thought to stay. Something tells me it had to be the perfect scenario that Spanoulis had in his mind for that to happen. And his skillset, coach, and attitude just werent ever gonna meet his dreamy expectation.
I know but my point was it doesn't matter if he did good against our guards in International competition when it comes to projecting how he could be as an NBA player.
To say that there was some sort of anti-Spanoulis bias is ridiculous. Van Gundy did everything he could for this team, he put players on the floor who would help us win. The fact is that V-Span came in with a chip on his shoulder, thought he was better than he was, the "T-Mac of Greece", and never really tried to fit into what we needed a PG for. Which was not jacking up bad shots or trying low-percentage risky passes. He had more turnovers than assists in his stint here, and shot .319 from the field (.172 from 3). JL3 showed more promise than Span did, during limited time. Lowry knows his range, and doesn't try shots he can't hit. Which is why he's shot almost no 3s, and hit 48% of his shots during the season with the Rockets. He's also got a very solid 2.5 - 1 A/T ratio. And he's capable of playing very solid defense without fouling, which is more than V-Span seemed capable of doing in his first season. And it's worth noting that Kyle is 22, and Span was 24. Kyle still has room to improve.
The sight of some of you still fellating that cowardly, pathetic wineskin of FAIL three years after he played his way out of the NBA, where he was never good enough to be in the first place is amusing.
He's just pointing out your hellacious hypocrisy when it comes to DD FavoritesTM . . . not that it tells us anything we didn't already know of course.
DD does have some homerism, yes. But ya cannot deny that Spanoulis has talent. A big part of the picture that you guys are leaving out is that VSpan brought his mother over to the states with him. Needless to say they did not adjust to the life in the USA very well. Add to that the fact that he didn't get to play very much, and you have a recipe for a momma's boy who yearns to run home to his homeland where he can regain his status as a SUPERSTAR.
I wonder if Sergio just might have a visa stamped from the Pacific Northwest to the Toy Shop? I want to believe that Browery will rise and shine and keep point guard dreams an inside job, and not a dream to find the next starting 1.
There is no hypocrisy, I could see his faults, high turnovers etc, I just think with PT he would have minimized those. DD
There's tons of hypocrisy - Lowry does all the things that Spanoulis allegedly did and does them way better - and he's younger too, yet since he's not a DD FavoriteTM - he's not eligible for your treatment.
I like Lowry a lot, why would you think otherwise? I am extremely happy with Brooks and Lowry....anything but Rafer.... DD
Oh, whoops. Since I can read Greek, I have found that in this case, MVP stands for: Most Voluminous Pants. It's hard to translate, as it's an idiom, but having "voluminous pants," in most of Greece, means that you are not manly. You can kind of see how the idiom arises, so to speak.
That stuff is so old and lame. Are Brooks and Wafer the right color? It is all about style, not skin tone....so lame...all the JVG apologists that no longer post because they aren't interested in the team anymore are coming by and taking a quick shot. DD
Or maybe we're more interested in the success of the team than the success of DD FavoritesTM. I missed this gem earlier - nice to see that you are still reading Kill_Bill_Pana/Rockets Dynasty/etc etc etc's posts over on the spurs forums or wheerever and repeating them.....this case of man-goat love may never be requited....
Congratulations to a player that I am convinced can be a very effective point guard in the NBA. VSpan is a gamer with skills.
