Solid Scifi movie. Really solid. Definite top 10 film this year. Pays homage to classics like ET, The Fly, Alien Nation etc...
I'd like to ask, how bad is the gore in this movie? Is like at Saving Private Ryan level? Or is it horror movie, decapitation, bloody, spraying body parts level? I'm not a huge fan of gorefests...
I thought the premise of this movie was a good one and I enjoyed the first 30 minutes of setup or so, but after that the movie really just wasn't good and I thought it fell apart. I left the movie thinking it was alright and got into the car and realized that it was just awful. Not Terminator 4 awful, but really pretty bad. Several things just didn't make any sense
Others may disagree, but I was surprised at how graphic the blood/guts in the movie were. Several scenes of decapitation, exploding bodies, Spoiler fingernail removal, chopping off fingers etc. Still liked it a lot and didn't think it "dragged" nearly as much as others did.
Absolutely incredible film! My expectations were pretty high for this one and I wasn't disappointed in the least. Like Moon, it's a great testament to the fact that it is quite possible to make a rewarding film without hundreds of millions of dollars invested, without countless studio heads interfering in the creative process. I don't know what truly happened with Halo or what will happen, but if the studios grew cold feet because of Blomkamp, then shame on them. Easily one of the best films of the year and could very well become a classic. It may sound like hyperbole, but it deserves praise. Intense and engaging from beginning to end, impressive action and cg sequences, a story with depth (but not preachy) and characters in which you become emotionally invested. I hope it does really well, cause I want to see more films from Blomkamp.
I enjoyed the movie, want to see if it gets a sequel. if you've seen the movie, doesn't the last part of the movie feel like" Spoiler
The first quarter of the movie, I was going to doze off then it picked up the pace and I was hooked! Highly recommended.
Movie was over hyped. I was disappointed in the movie from the beginning but would give the move a B- overall. Still not what I expected..wouldn't recommend
Loved it. The beginning was kind of slow, especially since I've watched just about every video they had about the background / story online. But it picked up after 20 min or so. Recommend it....absolutely SOLID scifi.
Spoiler If you liked the humans after the first few minutes there's something wrong with you. The prawns I could see your opinion changing, but the humans are basically pretty unlikeable from the beginning.
Saw it yesterday thought it was really impressive esp. consider how "little" money it was made for. Would love to see the director do a Robotech movie!
Warner, Tobey Maguire Acquire Robotech Film Rights posted on 2007-09-07 03:00 EDT Film franchise to be based on adaptation of three separate robot anime -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Hollywood Reporter writes that Warner Bros. Pictures and Maguire Entertainment, the production company of actor Tobey Maguire (Spider-Man), have acquired the film production rights for the Robotech military robot franchise from Harmony Gold USA. Maguire is considering playing the lead role for what the newspaper calls a "tentpole" franchise, or a property for which the studio expects will support it financially for much of a particular movie season. Robotech was an edited and dubbed adaptation of three separate anime television series: The Super Dimension Fortress Macross, The Super Dimension Cavalry Southern Cross, and Genesis Climber Mospeada. Due to a copyright dispute that has Studio Nue and Big West, the creators and sponsor of Macross, facing against Harmony Gold's partner Tatsunoko Production, elements from Macross, the most popular of the three series, have not been used in recent and planned Robotech works onscreen. Supercool Hollywood BigTime Prods' Drew Crevello and Kickstart Productions' Jason Netter will be producers, and Harmony Gold's Frank Agrama will be an executive producer. Craig Zahler (The Brigands of Rattleborge) has been assigned to write screenplay. Other executives overseeing the projects are Warner's Matthew Reilly and Maguire Entertainment's Daniel Shafer. Macross has had its own tabled attempt to make an American live-action film in the 1990s, and a new Macross Frontier television series, the latest of several animated spinoffs, in currently in production. An animated Robotech movie sequel, The Shadow Chronicles, came out in 2006 and a second one is planned. Other American giant robot movie efforts have included Altar Productions' Robot Jox (1990), PoleStar Entertainment Group's G-Saviour (2000), Dreamworks SKG's Transformers (2007), and New Regency Pictures' tentatively planned Voltron.
