just saw this movie last night. I know im late to the party, but I really liked it. the presentation and cinematography was excellent. Liked the documentary style and layout. Would definitely recommend. Cant wait for the sequel!
Ok, I just saw this movie and all I have to say is: WTF???? What is up with everybody into this movie? I don't get it! can some one explain to me what is so interesting about this movie? the news/interview style of the movie is annoying and the plot is sooooo lame. There are sooo many holes in this movie its not even funny but the one big thing that i don't get or probably missed is why the hell didn't they destroy us with their highly advanced weapons? mech? vaporizer guns? come on. Also, if they are so smart how come only one of them work on the command center and the rest of them collect trash?
for a $30MM budget, District 9 was very well made. the aliens were not here to attack us. they were apparently sick or something. overall the movie was more original than most other big-budget pieces of crap that hollywood makes these days.
Ok, so they're not here to attack us, fine. but why do they let us push them around when they have mechs and guns that can blow up a building?
I generally like movies that try to take something outrageous (in this case an alien spaceship docking over Johannesburg) and then intelligently examine how it might go down in our reality. Loved the way they detailed the politics and bureaucracy in regards to how the government would deal with such a scenario. The news/interview style of the movie enhances the "reality" aspect. I thought those parts were done very well. Made it seem even more urgent and gritty instead of glossy and phony. Also liked how it was set in Johannesburg rather than NYC or LA like every single other "disaster movie." This also allowed it to draw parallels with apartheid, adding another dimension to the film. And if none of that interested you, the action scenes over the last half of the movie were frickin' awesome. I mean come on... Spoiler You can't tell me you didn't get a rush when he first grabs the alien weapon and it turns on and he then proceeds to pulverize the slum lord's men. Also, it took me a few days to stop saying "fook" and "fooker" after seeing it.
How many of them were there? You're telling me this one rather small group of aliens with no vehicles and limited weapons is going to destroy the whole country of South Africa or what, the entire world? Maybe they didn't try to fight because they are smart. They were stuck and had no other recourse. In case you didn't know, human beings have bombs that can blow up entire cities. Maybe you should go see Independence Day again. That sounds more up your alley.
Oh gtfo of here with that crap. quit talking about "realism". two guys, one of which is an alien, break into a highly guarded building and escape unharmed but 1 million aliens with highly developed weapons and mechs can't take over south africa's slump? man, you smart dude
Maybe this movie is too cerebral for your tastes. I know a lost cause when I see it, so I won't bother trying to explain why it's in the alien's best interest to just lay low with the hope that they'll eventually be rescued as opposed to declaring war on earth. I'll just let you ponder this on your own.
guess what's the population of south africa? also try reading this first http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/District_9
Lol. CountyClerk's complaints remind me of whoever it was in The Dark Knight's thread that was mad that Batman didn't have enough gadgets. Just missed the point of, well, everything.
To countyclerk: The aliens were basically trapped inside the ship living in their own filth. They were badly mal-nourished, sick, and many on the verge of dying, apparently. They were also without their leaders. So essentially they are of a "hive" mind mentality. They were in no position to start a war. They just scavenge and do what it takes to survive. That's why you have them trading guns for cat food. They don't know any better. Only Christopher (and his son) seemed to be something more than a drone. Just saw it this weekend and enjoyed it quite a bit, although I'm one of the few who liked the first half a lot better than the second. I liked the real-world aspect of the beginning. The action was good...but I liked the political and social fallout being explored more.
You know that your post is full of grammatical and spelling errors, right? Glass houses, buddy. Glass houses.
