Robert Gould Shaw, colonel in command of the 54 Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, was killed at Fort Wagner in Charleston, South Carolina during the Civil War when they tried to take the fort. Therefore, he couldn't possibly be suspended. He's dead. I wish he were around for this fight, though. Give em hell, 54th and Rockets!
that shaq was the only participant in the entire mess who took a clear cheap shot? yeah that is funny all of the other players' actions are understandable. not necessarily justified but understandable > barnes nails rafer because of tmac's pick and because suns are getting blown out > rafter nails barnes for his illegal hit and ref no call > nash sees none of this and nails rafer defending his teammate barnes > tmac sees none of this and nails nash for going after his teammate rafer > yao may or may not see all of this and goes after rafer, tmac and barnes to prevent any fighting then shaq comes in after everything is over and contained because he's a moron and decides to shove tmac then pushes yao for good measure. note shaq is the only one who is a p***y and goes at anyone from behind. nash, tmac, rafter and yao all face up to the person they're confronting so yeah it's pretty funny
Ben Wallace started the brawl in Detroit and Ron Artest got the worst of it because he beat up a bunch of fans. Ron's foul was a hard but legal foul. If Matt Barnes would have hit Rafer like that during play, and Rafer would have done nothing and there would have been no scuffle, Barnes would have gotten one game max. . . . but thanks for playing.
I think the distribution of the punishment is fine. Though I think Nash should have been fined and/or Shaq&Mac suspended [1 game]. Anyway, am I worry about NO game? Slightly. This will really help Brooks to improve; Stepping his game up. He'll learn how to handle the big-boys. If we lose, a lesson learned for Brooks and the gang.
It shoul be: Barnes - 3 games for being a wankster and going after Rafer when the coaches were between them. Rafer - 2 games - 1 game defending himself. The officials didn't do anything. Add another game for taking a swing at Nash. Nash - 2 games for escalating the scuffle. It would have been over if he didn't charge in, nudge Alston's grill, and grab Alston's jersey. Add another game for flopping (3 total). O'neal - 2 games for pushing Yao, T-Mac, and Rafer. Tmac - $25,000 I guess they didn't suspend O'Neal and TMac because that would have been a reward to them.
Tmac push was pretty vicious. I'm glad he wasn't suspended. If Shaq got suspended, Tmac would have gotten suspended too. In retrospect, Shaq prevented a nasty brawl from occuring. If he wasn't there, everyone would have been throwing punches.
The Rox should beat the brakes off the spurs. There isn't 1 matchup the spurs have an advantage. Yao does a good job on duncan so they should play him straight up. Artest and tracy should work over their wings, and they have no one who can create a shot. Brooks will prove rafers importance to this team is severly overrated by people on this board. For a minute I thought rafer was the paul-stopper. Paul kills everyone except deron williams.
I know right when its already officially said that he is suspended 1 game the league has to do it. My lord
Hope you're wrong here. The comments after last game indicated that T-Mac was more productive because they had him moving without the ball instead of his usual initiating the offense (imagine that). So T-Mac can do the backup duty (he he, I said duty), but that will probably mean that our offense will bog down and he won't get his points. -Humer P.S. friggin Nash not getting any suspension!
Can't we just ingore the dumbasses and let them be? Why even quote them if they didn't bother reading the article. You guys making fun of them and assuming **** are even more annoying. I guess you think your cool.
Barnes and Nash are not happy about it: http://www.azcentral.com/sports/suns/articles/2008/11/14/20081114sunssuspension-CR.html [rquoter] “It’s just overblown,” Barnes said. “They went above and beyond the call of duty here. They didn’t call a foul in my situation. We got in a little pushing match and I get suspended for two games? Rafer gets two games and Rafer threw two punches at Steve. Basically, what they’re saying is you might as well throw two punches because you got the same suspension as someone who threw two punches. Steve comes and tries to break it up and gets thrown to the ground and he gets suspended and T-Mac (McGrady) doesn’t get anything. Ridiculous.” The scuffle broke out in the final seconds of Wednesday’s third quarter, just as Houston opened its biggest lead of 19 on a McGrady 3-pointer. On the shot, Alston set a high screen on Barnes, who lowered his shoulder hard into Alston. After the shot went in, Alston ran up on Barnes, prompting Nash to race from several feet away toward Alston and Barnes. Once he got close, McGrady shoved him to the ground and more players came to the scene with O’Neal shoving McGrady to the ground and pushing Alston and Yao Ming. And if you think Barnes sounds upset, you should see Nash seething. “I’ve never been this mad,” said Nash, who watched the video of the fracas for the first time after learning of the NBA judgments. “Unbelievable. “They said I escalated the situation,” Nash said. “I was surrounded by three Rockets and one was attacking. What was I supposed to do? I went to go and separate guys from each other, especially when I get there and I get pushed from the side and the guy (McGrady) doesn’t get suspended. “Rafer punched me in the chin.” The Suns players were interviewed by phone before Wednesday’s practice, when Nash said he was asked, “Was it your intent to help Matt fight or just to help diffuse the situation?” “I said, ‘I just wanted to go and help protect him because he was surrounded,’ “ Nash said. “I understand I did run over to the situation but who are they to judge if I was an aggressor or a diffuser. I got pushed to the ground. At that point, what was I supposed to do? Get thrown on the ground and get trampled? If I wanted to throw a punch, I could’ve. I just tried to grab guys to get them out of them. I was on the floor most of the time. I got pushed around twice. I’ve never been this (ticked off).”[/rquoter]
i hate the quote from nash that i bolded. you were surrounded by three rockets cuz you ran into the fray and at alston. and its lame to say that you were trying to be a "diffuser" considering that when he rushed in there, rafer and barnes were already separated. it was essentially over and he started it up again. i lost a lot of respect for nash.
Nash has a point. Who is to say whether he is an instigator or diffuser? He ended up getting pushed and not doing anything to anyone and Mac doesn't get suspended.
