Thats Kammerichs selected by Portland ahead of Scola in the draft. :D

He shaved his beard for this tournament... it looks really bad.

They didn't bring Scola in to play D. They brought him in to run the offense from high post and score in the low post, to pass the ball, to post feed Yao and to throw around some physicality and tough play (actually dirty play).

He wasn't brought in to be a rebound or D specialist, that's why Hayes was re-signed.

Duuuuuuh! But if Scola racks up fouls and gets abused it will negate his effect on offense. It will also limit his floor time (fouls tend to do that ya know). See Chuck Hayes.

I'm trying to stay realistic about Scola. I don't expect much from him early, but as the season wears on, we need him to own the PF position. We can't be depending on Chuck late in the season and playoffs because he just isn't good enough. Early on if they split the minutes 50/50, so be it.

I expect the Chuck-lovers to jump in and defend him now. But I don't think he's an Adelman type of player and Scola is already better.

Perhaps in the future you can be slightly more relevant than that with your insight. I mean seeing how you keep constantly reminding others of how serious you are in your objective viewpoints here, while others you say just ride people's jocks.

I wouldn't want my extremely high opinion of you to be any way, shape, or form diminished.

Man scola 22/11 today! It's going to feel great to finally have a true starting forward now. He's a HUGE HUGE upgrade over chuck hayes!! :D

Now that he's beat NBA stars like Carlos Arroyo, Carmelo Lee, Larry Ayuso and Peter John Ramos, he's proven.

Yup! He should be averaging 35 mins a game this season. PF is no longer the rockets biggest weakness! No more playing 4 on 5 on offense with chuck hayes! :D

He seems to get a lot of putbacks which will fit in very nicely.

I'm with you on the Chuck Hayes hate bandwagon, the guy is a bench player, don't mind him getting playing time, but only in certain situations, he's 6'7" he can't shoot, not a post player, liability on offense...he's a tweener who on most teams wouldn't even make it off the bench.

I don't think he'll fit in Adelman's system, everyone has to be able to shoot the ball, and that ain't in his repertoire. He was a JVG type a guy, he looked good in his system, but will be a faliure in Adelman's. IMHO

I don't hate chuck hayes. I like his hustle, hard work and his rebounding. He's just not starter material. I remember listening to the lakers broadcasters when the rockets played them and when chuck hayes fouled out, the quipped that it was no big deal cause he was a token starter anyways. Was mad at them for the diss on hayes, but in reality, they were right.

I meant compared to some of our fellow rocket fans...they seem to be blinded when he plays...he was what you say he was in JVG's system, but he;s going to fail big time with Adelman...the guy has very limited skills...

Good enough for what? We were at our best against strong opposing lineups when Chuck Hayes was on the floor last year. That's a fact.

I hope Scola/Chuck is an upgrade over Chuck/Juwan as well, but this notion that we were winning last year in spite of Chuck is plain foolish.

exactly, we need a chuck hayes. but like rafer, chuck played too many mins last yr for our own good. those 2 are best for short minutes b/c they are great role players.

chuck can get 18-20 mins, scola 28-30. chuck is a great off the bench player.

but we lost to the jazz not b/c of defense son, but b/c of alston/head/howard not making their freaking OPEN shots

the problem is, Scola and Chuck can't be on court together.
So the either offense or defense will suffer at any given time if Scola's defense is indeed sub par.

What's EEUU? The team that Argentina is supposedly trying to avoid?

From what I've seen, Scola's post moves are a lot better than just "decent." He looks incredibly good in the low post. I think he will foul a lot too....but, simply because he looks like he goes after his guy and isn't afraid to use his body. We don't know how his defense is going to be in the NBA.....he's in a different system and his coaches in Argentina and Tau might have used him differently than Adelman will on defense. I don't think mobility, size and strength or intelligence will be a probelm in that area for Scola (as it has been in the past for our pf's mobility--Juwan, size--Hayes, and b-ball intelligence--Swift) ....he just has to learn to adjust... Oberto didn't look particularly impressive on the defensive or rebounding end in international play and Oberto's fit in really well with the Spurs system.

Scola had a very good performance, but i still think Chuck Hayes will have alot to bring to the table, i know alot of you dont think he does but hey then man has proven people wrong right and left...i love the chuck wagon coming off the bench for 15-20 min and giving us his heart and determination i think he will have some great games this year suprising some peeps.

i know i bet ill get flamed..

No. Scola is the most physical player on the planet.

It's not even close. If Zo tried to rough him up he would get steamrolled into the fourth row.

Scola has always been the top post scorer in Europe as well.

On the Argentine National Team he has been the 2nd best player, better than Nocioni or Hermann.

But he's been the low post scorer. Nocioni was the defensive enforcer. He doesn't have great D like some of the other players for that team.

But when it comes to physical play and rough play, honestly let me just spell it out.

THIS GUY IS DIRTIER THAN RODMAN

Mo Taylor would piss his pants the first time he bumped into this guy. If only Sura would stayed healthy.......

With Scola and Sura it would have been an all-time in your face no holds barred lineup.

No matter how soft Yao and T-Mac play even if like the Utah series it really won't matter with Scola.

Think of how the Jazz play. Well Sloan himself would have to suit up to counter Scola's dirtiness. Boozer would be kneed in the nuts before he even got going.

You play the Spurs, Scola will take Bowen out before he even considers a cheap shot on T-Mac.

Scola's just a flat out Karl Malone style thug.

    For fun:

    In a single elimination game,

    2006-07 San Antonio Spurs
    vs
2007 USA Men's Senior National team,

what would the point spread be?
