if mcgrady avgs 24 and yao 25, sf, mj, and bonzi would realistically avg a combined what 30 pts? thats 80 pts....im going to take odds on him scoring at least 10 a game. I could see him get a lot of dirty points as well as 2-3 jump shots a game from yao doubles.
Hmmm.... actually, I am thinking of a different approach. I hope that he gets at least 12 shots a game. If he maintains his high goal ratio of 50% (or more), then there is every possibility that he will reach double digits. Also actually, the precense of so many attacking threats could open the floor up for him. Remember... in the Spanish League, he was the main offensive focus for his team. At least here, he has T-Mac, Big Yao, Franchise and a couple of other 'more perceived' offensive threats. I would not be surprised if he takes advantage of any possible lack of defense on him. In any event, Scola can be our interior scorer when Yao is out taking a rest. Once he can establish himself at PF, then this would give Yao longer rest periods so that he can pace himself for the season. This would indirectly provide Scola with a more offensive focus in the interior. Ultimately, I believe that a guy with the right brains and the right attitude will know how to carve out his own niche, spot and success in the team and the NBA.
Remember he will need time to adapt to the NBA. Some players even need a full season to adjust their games.
Why not? In the 37 games that Howard started at PF, he averaged close to 11 shots per game and overall averaged over 10.5 shots per game.
It will if he works hard for offensive rebounds, if our playmakers spot him when he is open and if he can develop himself to be the second interior offense option behind Yao.
If Yao and McGrady average 50 points and SF/MJ/Bonzi add on 30 more, it will be impossible for Scola to average 10. If we have 5 players scoring 80 points, that leaves only ~20 more for the rest of the team. Impossible for Scola to get half of that. Because of our big 2, the Rockets aren't the type of team that can have 6 guys scoring over 10 unless we average 120 points/game, which ain't gonna happen with Adelman. And 12 shots/game for Scola ain't gonna happen. No way in the world with the scorers we have on this team. Our #3 shot guy will be in the backout for sure. 12 shots in 20 minutes on the Rockets will happen in Scola's dreams. It's hard enough to get Yao 17 shots in 34 minutes.
Last year, all of our starters scored in double figures besides Chuck, who only played 23mpg. Luther scored 10+ off the bench and Juwan was very close, scoring 9.7ppg on 26mpg. Adelman's looking to score more, and the team's talked about how they're going to play higher tempo. If Scola can absorb Juwan's minutes, he'll put up similar scoring averages. The shot selection was already guard-centric last year with everyone jacking up threes. Adding Stevie and MJ takes away from Alston and Head, not the frontcourt. Scola's offense looks good from what I've seen. Anywhere near 30mpg and he'll score 10+, I believe.
Live and die by the 3 is never good. There were some NCAA teams like that in the championship tournament and they always got bounced from the big dance. I look forward to getting some nice balanced offensive sets and nice penetration with the motion offense.
Let's be realistic.T-Mac's,Yao's and other players PPG are going to drop.Unless Scola is All-Star caliber of player he'll not average more than 10-12 ppg.
Yup, but I should have been more specific. Adding Steve and MJ takes away MOSTLY from Alston and Luther's 3pt chucking. But they can certainly take away from Yao and Tmac too. Would you be that suprised if even more shots came from the PG position next year? I almost expect it to.
he only needs roughly 10 shots a game to get to double figures. maybe jvg's rockets arent that type of team, but adelmans rockets should be at a little bit higher scoring clip thus allowing scola to score at a double digit pace. we arent looking for scola to be our third scorer. He will get shots similar to chuck and juwan combined, 16 ft jumpshots and putbacks off the glass. of course its hard for yao to get 17 shots in 34 min, considering he is doubled and tripled quite a bit.
he is not a typical rookie coming out of college. he has enough on court intelligence to adapt very quickly in the nba.
