    Dolores O'riordan from the Cranberries.

Any song sang by her is a good song. Surprising she hasn't been mentioned

Many outstanding female singers- Ann Wilson (Heart), Debbie Harry (Blondie), Aretha Franklin, Donna Summer, Joan Jett, the one from The Motels, Suzanna Hoffs (The Bangles), countless others.

I put Joni Mitchell and Crissie Hynde (The Pretenders) in a category above, primarily because they are excellent songwriters and wordsmiths. Ironically, their vocals aren't what you'd call aesthetically super- they're more eccentric or eclectic. But I have more CDs from those 2 female artists than any other, particularly The Pretenders. They're in my top 20 all time.

One of the all-time great bass lines in rock history:
    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/7hKbmnnYeq8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

A weird time signature in this manic song:
    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/CF_kUB_mdmA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    Covering The Kinks:
    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/OGcn15ODltA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

Acoustic version of a later hit:
    <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/BxY6YitjNM0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

And pop music simply does not get much better than this:

She's a solo artist, but you mentioned Norah Jones, so:

My absolute favorite artist at the moment.

The Sounds. Maja Ivarsson is evidence that Swedish women are amazing.

The Noisettes. Shingai Shoniwa has that raw awesome voice; lots of energy.

Little Dragon. Weird video. Her voice is really soothing, and she's like Japanese/Swedish or something.

This is a local band called Madigan. They play locally around the Clear Lake area. Great rock cover band:
