having a coach that actually understands the importance of defense could do this team some good, as the team played none the whole season. Having Harden will keep the offense end ticking over
Internet guy doesn't understand what is implied and goes on sarcastic rant..the current system with a lot of threes, run and gun. To have an owner hammering about wanting a certain system regardless of the roster is foolish and spells doom.
How can you blame Morey for this? Last year, the Rockets unexpectedly make it to the conference finals without two of their starters and giving large minutes to a pair of of 38 year olds. Can you really kill Morey for thinking getting those starters back, adding a starting caliber point guard and growth from our young guys would be enough to put us over the top? What else are you supposed to do when your team goes that deep, blow it up?

if memory serves, he wasn't technically fired. JVG had a one year option on his contract and he turned it down. Rather than resign him, Les let him walk. JVG put the onus on Les resign him to a longer deal. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Because Moreyball is one dimensional and overall TRASH. No way a GM should be dictating what offense the team is running. It's unheard of, especially when that GM's strictly a numbers guy with no real basketball background. We needed a real coach but ended up with another Morey yesman
I know I am in the minority. But JB was not given a fair chance. He deserves another chance. Just not here. Put jb on a team that is rebuilding and see what he can do before saying he is trash. Fault for this season lies with everyone that endorses a paycheck from the houston rockets including JB. But some of thr hate towards him is uncalled for. Dude took a train wreck with a couple of snot nosed brats as "stars" had no training camp. Just lined up for a fail.
http://espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=2874873 Van Gundy fired by Rockets after four seasons Rockets general manager Daryl Morey said Van Gundy gave the team his blessing to seek other candidates, in case he decided not to coach anymore. But Van Gundy said he told the Rockets all along that he wanted to come back as coach. "You're always disappointed when you're fired. It's difficult," Van Gundy said. "But I was a little bit more upset when it was being spun that I hadn't come to a decision about wanting to coach. I had told them long ago that I wanted to coach if they wanted me.
I agree that JB never had a chance with this team given how dysfunctional it was. Although he certainly shares some of the blame since he was McHale's top assistant and by all accounts, they had a lousy training camp and came into the season completely unprepared. That's partly on the coaching staff. But that doesn't change the fact that he did a bad job as interim coach. His rotations were all over the map. He never made adjustments in games. He refused to give some of the younger guys a shot when it was clear the veterans were either unmotivated or not up to the task. Maybe he'll succeed someplace else under better circumstances. I'd be very hesitant to hire him though if I were a GM on another team. I think he needs some time as an assistant under another coach besides McHale.
Firing to me, sounds like you have time there but they let you go early. Like McHale. Gundy's situation was, his contract was out and they decided not to renew. Maybe it's splitting hairs, but that doesn't sound like a firing.
from the same article: HOUSTON -- If Jeff Van Gundy had decided sooner that he wanted to return to the Houston Rockets, he would still have a job. At least that's what the team was saying Friday after firing him. The Rockets' Game 7 loss to Utah meant a first-round exit for the third time in Van Gundy's four seasons, raising the possibility that the coach would step down or be dismissed by owner Les Alexander.
