Look, I get it, he's not a defensive guru, I get it.

But what he has been is a successful coach who revolutionized this game. The only place he hasnt had success at were the Lakers(and their roster had injuries and the rest were not good).

I believe he can right our ship. And people acting like hes anywhere close to the level of Mchale(ahem JR) are really disrespecting him.

But it isnt though. Thats not how it works. You have to know when to switch, when not to switch, are you switching with the correct man, is your setting a pick or slipping.

Oh well lol go back a page and you will see gifs of our defense on GS lol.
Look at this. Theres so much movement and switching going on there, you cannot be a low IQ player and expect to pull this off consistently.

You really think a dumbed down defense could do what we did to GS in the playoffs? No, it couldnt. If it was so simple, we wouldn't be having these problems right now.

    I still disagree.

That’s actually the whole point of switch everything.

If you go back a number of pages you will see @heypartner try and clarify between switch everything and switch anything.

Switch anything is nuanced and requires high b-ball IQ in the same way real great man to man rotating d does.

Switch everything is simple SWITCH EVERYTHING. It’s a step above a zone in terms of level of comlexity. It requires effort and some communication.

For the rockets to two back from a mastery of switch anything that they were st in the WCF to switch everything is understandable.

For them to not even be able to figure out switch everything is pathetic as it speaks to a lack of effort and finger pointing mentality.

This flip flopping just shows how clueless MDA is about this. The switching scheme works fantastically when executed well. But the players haven't bought in for whatever reason this year. And we have no coach to drill it into them.

Hmm, fair point I may have been talking about switch anything then? But regardless isnt that what we run anyways?

Either way I mean, I really dont think its as easy as you make it out to be, like I said if it were really that easy than alot of other teams would be doing it. Plus when we had JB two years ago and had better defenders, we were still only ever average defensively. We have MCW, Melo and now Green getting minutes on this squad in addition to Harden's defense. Its prolly gonna take some time, switch everything or not.

I donno but the fact that the isolation ppp being low is telling. It seems like alot of the switching problems is happening off ball? I donno lol.

This is an excellent read. I encourage everyone to read it. Lots of Rockets mentions. PJ Tucker, Eric Gordon etc.
