Feigen: ROX wont spend $, cuz they have it - will go after Nene, not 2nd tier players

I wouldn't mind getting Nene for something a little more than MLE money. Also interested about Memphis situation going forward. If they do indeed decide to pay Gasol max money, they would have him, Z-Bo and Gay being paid max dollars. If Memphis decides to amnesty Gay, like Feigan mentioned, I would certainly pick him up.

    Lowry/Dragic
    Martin/Lee
    Gay/Morris
    Scola/Patterson
    Nene/Hayes

What a squad, with still pieces to go after Howard in FA.

I'm going with Cluch's train of thought.

My opinion is Nene keeps the Rockets stuck in mediocrity for several more years longer.

If by scary you meant pathetic and ineffective, then I 100% agree.

I'm not a diehard nene fan, but I feel like the Rockets won't have a choice. I just don't think we can get a superstar without fixing the center position. Nene would be a walking cast for the position, not a cure. I just don't know who else we could bring in realistically. Could we seriously bring in Howard? I'd die to see it go down, but just don't think it can happen. Then again, I never thought they would get Tmac either.

He's a classic example of a player you eventually regret overpaying, usually within two years of signing them.

    Is Nene fool's gold?

Maybe we can trade him for Bogut or in part for Dwight.

Espn has Nene rated 30ish. I'm not that impressed with his rebounding, shot blocking and scoring (stats). With melo traded you would have thought such an efficient scorer like nene would boost his average significantly but that wasn't the case. He's probably the most well rounded center but we mainly need rebounding and shot blocking which I would give him a B/B+ in.

The only way I would be happy with him as C is if we then traded Scola and Twill for Iggy and re-signed Hayes. Then we would be a contender

    Morey - make it happen!

If he is asking for more money than he already turned down from Denver, then I agree with you. He rejected 4 years, $50 million.

If you can't move it easily without sacrificing additional value, I hope the Rockets pass.

Don't see how the Rockets acquire Nene. His wife's from Colorado, they have a kid (newborn?), etc.

But a lot of Denver's talent went to play in China this year, so maybe he can be enticed.

Then make a deal with the rest of the Rockets' surplus of forwards to further balance the team.

But agreed, Nene isn't worth the money he turned down.

:) Haha. That's ok. Ideally there whould have been a 'just' in there, but I didn't have any characters left, as I tried to put as much 'info' as possible into the headline, although I probably could have worded it better.

As for the people saying that Nene is a second tier player, you are right. I should have used 'lesser' instead of '2nd tier'.

Also, despite what Feigen said, I doubt the Grizzlies would ever amnesty Rudy Gay. It's just too much money you'd have to pay the guy to get nothing in return.
Now, I sure could see them trading Gay, if things don't work out like they're hoping, but amnesty-ing him? Naw, that's not happening.

Wouldn't we have to renounce Chuck's rights just to have a shot at him?

I don't think he is the primary target.

To me, whether to sign or not sign Nene (given he chooses Houston) all has to do with the official rules and regulations of the Amnesty clause.

If the Amnesty clause allows you to waive that player after just one season, and is otherwise palatable to their situation, than I would take a shot at him if the price is similar to the deal the Nuggets extended towards him last season.

If the Rockets main goal is to make the playoffs next season then I believe Nene is the the best available option in free agency outside of Gasol. If the franchise is dead set on Dwight or Bust in 2012 then wait it out and resign Chuck for another two seasons.

The most prefered option to getting a decent rotational center this next season would be through trade because you are always going to get ripped off in free agency, especially with centers. I would prefer a trade for either Kaman, Biedrins, Gortat, Robin Lopez, Anderson V., etc. over blowing a near max contract that is in its first year for a center like Nene who doesn't even consider himself a center.

Yeah, Marc Spears(Yahoo) mentioned this back around the trade deadline this past season. Said along with 'Melo, Nene too would be 'probably' upset being traded to Houston.

(On 'Melo): His agent has told Dallas/Houston that he wont re-sign there. Risk for them. They would(could?) be getting a disgruntled player. I am confident he doesn't want to go there.

(On Nene): He doesnt want to leave Denver. His wife is pregnant and from Colorado. Another guy that would probably be upset about being traded there. Whoever gets him, and if he does opt out --he and Kendrick Perkins, Houston would have interest in them, though they'll have competition.

    Personally, ehh I'd likely pass.

We could probably free up 15 million to offer Gasol.

Outside of Gasol/Nene, I wouldn't want anyone else.

Nene is no Dwight Howard, but he is no Chuck Hayes either. Nene is a better center than Hayes, and Hayes is a better PF than Scola, and Scola is a better second team scorer than both Courtney Lee and Chase Budinger. This makes our team better.

I suppose we could sign Nene and then go after Dwight Howard and amnesty Nene to free up the cap space again to do it if Howard says yes. If he says no, Nene is the consolation prize. But, it would cost Les something like $40m for the privilege.

    NoNo to NeNe because

1-there has never been any indication he would come to Houston
    2-or a situation like Houston's
3-he's good (in a yawn kind of way)

    Instead:

    1-look to possible amnesty 5's
2-see if Pau's telling Marc to 'get out' of Memphis will be heeded, and if so then Marc
3-suck-for-luck. This mat be the draft class to have the balls, ping pong that is, in the hopper

    BTW:

    End the $&*% lockoout. Today!
