I agree with your concern. There is risk. But look at Brad Stevens, Steve Kerr, Billy Donovan. Unproven and catching keys.

The best upside comparison for Stephen Silas -- NBA's version of Kevin Ollie. The downside side comparison? J.B Bickerstaff.

Bring in Silas/Hollins. Use Hollins and Silas to recruit and bring in Conley, Batum, and Al Horford. Go into the season with:

    Conley/Bev
    Harden
    Batum/Ariza
    Horford/Beasley
    Capela/Dmo

Not sure if or how it would work dollars wise, but I think that would be a good lineup to roll with.

    Ty Lue
    Billy Donavan
    Steve Kerr
    Dwane Casey

None of these guys are all players coaches:rolleyes:

Pop is not a authoritarian azzhole to his players contrary to popular opinion...

In fact that entire mantra is slowly being phased out of basketball because people have realized it's not the old days where players might be working as a plumber in their offtime because they don't make enough from the sport.:p

LeBatard had a whole show about how this topic, I'll have to dig it up

Silas's resume is not impressive at all. Most of the teams he's coached were crap teams. At least with D'Antoni we know we're getting quality offense. Silas feels like another Morey's puppet.

It's just bad all around. Feels like the choice is a one-dimensional offensive retread or an inexperienced coach. I'm sure I'll come to grips, but man I'm depressed

I think it is possibly impossible to know what Silas can bring to the table without being at the interview at the times.

But if they see something in him, they might want to solidify their interest at this time because of the Warriors. This seems like what the Warriors do, they go after a candidate after they gain steam with another team, same as Kerr with the Knicks, and fly to them, offer them a contract out of no where, and get their guy.

The Rockets organization probably should be conscious of that at the moment. Golden State likes to play innocent until they have the lead, and then they pounce and beat you up with no mercy if you give them a chance at some time.

Nook, what do you know about Silas? Is he the real deal (if so why was he not a known rising assistant to the public until now)? Thanks!

Fun fact, of the 16 teams in the playoffs this season, 11 of them had a head coach that took over that job with zero NBA head coaching experience (not including Popovich, even though he technically falls in that category).

That includes the 4 coaches that are still coaching right now.

Yes but Hollins sweetens the deal significantly.

I agree that Hollins on board changes things. I guess I wish I knew more about Silas.

Given the recent success of Kerr and Clifford, Silas is a good candidate. Stephen is a good coaching name.

I wonder if we will also hire Seth Silas to coach RGV.

Steve Kerry would be a strong name and hire too.

    Honestly. . . I just REALLY don't like D'Antoni

    I prefer Sam Cassel
(but by now. . . who doesn't know that!)

Amin Elhassan, who was in the front office of the Phoenix Suns during D'Antoni's time there,
says that he thinks MDA will be an bad fit for Houston because he is aloof and not a vocal leader.

Conversely, he says that Silas is worthy of a head coaching position beyond his family name and if the Rockets don't give him the HC role, he will inevitably become a HC somewhere shortly.
