The Rockets are "hopeful" to meet with FVV?

Elsewhere you get reports that we're going to offer him a sh**load of money for 2 years. You'd think that would entice a sit-down.

It wouldn't be VanVleet and it's been brought up to my attention
by @Hemingway that Lopez is a rule-38. So throwing money at
him is around $16 million (but the Bucks can offer $18 million)

I'm not throwing money at any two players.....I'm spreading it out
over Cam Johnson, Seth Curry, Jerami Grant, Dwight Powell, Rui Hachimaui,
    Jordan Clarkson.

Mavs said one of the biggest loses to that Silas run team was losing
Seth Curry. Curry has gone on to shine in Philly and Brooklyn since.
A true floor spacer that can give you assists and run a team in a pinch.

I can live with it on a short-term deal, but for the money I think there are better options. There are players that can actually play both good offense and good defense. Guys like Max Strus or Bruce Brown. Brooks is more one-dimensional. His offensive efficiency is horrific. But not a hill to die on. My big wish is Lopez. If this free agency yields us all 3 (FVV, Brooks, Lopez), I think it’s successful. But falling short of that isn’t gonna feel good. FVV and Brooks aren’t enough.

He played essentially as a PF for Brooklyn, being the roll man on pick and rolls. He plays bigger than his size.

Hopefully you don't actually believe that the Rockets front office gave their exact list in order of all the FAs they covet to a news outlet before FA even began.

I know people are out on Dillon Brooks because of how he looked vs LA, but I think Rockets will take him on because of his defense and they (Ime) feel like they can get him to play the right way. We would not be looking to make him a primary scorer, he would be a 3&D wing. He was 2nd team all defense, we NEED that type of player to go with our young squad. Memphis was a mess last year, no leadership. We now have a coach that will hold him accountable right off the bat. We not giving him max money on a long term deal.
I feel you man. I dont think Strus would give you near the onball defense Brooks would. Strus is a shooter to me. I like Brown and his energy, he seems more of a help side defender than a onball stopper, but hey, I guess the scouts and GM and coach know what they want/need.

Im with you though, I HOPE we can get the right type of players that will help us win some games and develop our young guys over the next 2 years. I will trust the FO on this. We have the money, so it will be up to the players to want to take it and come help us.

Gabe Vincent didnt like Heat initial offer. Could we get in and steal him on a good deal?

    Raptors Still Keeping the Course
The odds seem to be declining that Fred VanVleet will remain a Raptor.

Toronto has a sizable offer on the table for FVV to stay with the team he won a title with four years ago, but once the Houston Rockets moved on from pursuing James Harden, multiple league sources said, VanVleet became their No.1 target.

It’s not a done deal at all, but the Raptors are going uphill in their pursuit of retaining VanVleet.

Other than that, however, it certainly looks like the Raptors will return a very similar team to last year’s wildly disappointing team. Both Jakob Poeltl and Gary Trent Jr. are expected back on either big-money or long-term deals.

There’s been zero discussion of OG Anunoby or Pascal Siakam in the circles I’ve poked my head into since the draft. If Masai Ujiri deals one of those two, it will be done suddenly and with very little advance discussion.

Absolutely, I like good players and good decisions, I dislike bad players and bad decisions. Right now the Rockets have a lot of bad players and have made a lot of bad decisions.

@KellyUnchained appreciate your work! You been grinding since the draft and I am sure putting in tons of prep behind the scenes way prior to it! Your article this morning was very in-depth and a very enjoyable read to kick off free agency day!

the draft and free agency has got people off their rockers.

here for the retort on how it's totally cool and ok to call a black journalist "ghetto".

    1. Fred Van Vleet | PG | Toronto Raptors
    2. Dillon Brooks | SF | Memphis Grizzlies
    3. Brook Lopez | C | Milwaukee Bucks
    4. Bruce Brown Jr. | SF | Denver Nuggets
    5. Kyrie Irving | PG | Dallas Mavericks
    6. Cam Johnson | PF | Brooklyn Nets <<- Detroit will do an offersheet
    7. Austin Reaves | PG/SG | Los Angeles Lakers <<- Lakes will match, but Rockets can send an offer once the other deals are done.
    8.
    Jakob Poeltl | C | Toronto Raptors |
    9. Dwight Powell | C | Dallas Mavericks
    10. Grant Williams | C | Boston Celtics

    • Lopez is OK, but can take also take a swing at Poeltl, whom FVV has good chemistry with and properly cheaper. Any money saved could be offered to the below
    • Bruce or Grant (instead of Dillion).
      • BOS is looking to make room to pay Jaylen Brown, and Porzingis is on the books, deals can be had with Grant. We have many hinkie special contracts that BOS would love; it's also a chance for Rockets to consolidate the roster.
