What is the point of acquiring Howard for one year if you have nothing to surround him with, and no promising players to encourage him to stay on in the future (since they'll be traded away)? Keeping one of Lamb or White as a consolation isn't going to cut.

Just tank it out for 2 years and hope for the best in the '14 draft. That's the way to build a team.

Where else is he gonna go? None of the teams he could go to have better situations than we would, and he'd be giving up a lot of money to just go to a worse scenario.

I strongly suspect Morey hopes to bring back Courtney Lee despite renouncing his cap hold. Also Aaron Brooks. Ideally it would look something like this:

    Brooks
    Lee
    Parsons
    Scola
    Howard

But it depends on whether we can have all three of those guys (Brooks Lee and Scola) which may be tough to do. I don't know if there's a way the cap math could work out

Shaq never had a decent shot outside of six feet.

Those of you who are skeptical, be honest, do you REALLY REALLY think that any trade which goes down will look like this?

I just wanted to put it in perspective... there is NO WAY we give up even half of those concessions to the Magic... and they couldn't take back that many players even if they wanted to.

DAL or ATL would both look better Houston because they have All-Stars to team up with. We wouldn’t even have one single established good player since even Scola looks to be on his way out. ATL would also have gobs of cap space with Horford being the only significant contract on the books for them.

I am not saying it’s easy to walk away from $30M, but when you’re stuck playing with Hedo, Duhon, and Richardson all over again, the possibility is probably more real than you think.

Do you really think Dwight wants to sign a 4-year deal to play alongside a 35 year old Dirk Nowitzki and nothing else of consequence? I doubt it.

Atlanta only has Josh Smith, he is not and has never been a top tier player. Also he's a free agent after this season and vocally wants out so he may not even be there. Maybe they could combine CP3 and Howard, but so could we AND Howard would be making more money!

Dirk is going to be 36 or 37 next year, and they look like they are gonna be bad this season. Dwight has had harsh public comments about the Hawks and hasn't made it a secret he doesn't really like them. If we can get him for a year to establish comfort/familiarity, speak big picture with him and get him to buy into our vision with him being our top dog, we should stand to have a pretty decent shot at re-signing him. also:

Why isn't every team just offering to trade for Dwight right now if there is absolutely no way he walks?

I think if Orlando was going to any other team right now, it would have been leaked all over the place. I think we have a deal in place right now, just waiting on the NY deal to be finalized.

If we had agreed on something in principle it would probably already be out there. I don't think anything is settled yet but I think we are the frontrunners.

New Orleans should just trade Anthony Davis for him. There is no way Dwight would leave New Orleans, right?

I've put this same question out there but no one is willing to risk their pieces, like Davis, Love, Cousins, etc for a possible rental.....even though arperantly there is no way he would walk away from the money.

It's a combination of factors. We have very good assets to offer AND we can deal a lot of them while still putting up a full team of roleplayers around Dwight (assuming we sign AB). Can anybody else actually say that?

It's not that he wouldn't walk from any team, it's that he wouldn't walk BECAUSE he would already be in a situation better than anywhere he could walk to.

We're the only ones who can trade for him and honestly say that.

I think Smith becomes the top target if Howard is traded to the Rockets.
