Everyone but Hornacek is very young. This is awesome.

Stone is proving that he knows what he's doing. I'm so impressed by their coaching process. Hope they get all of those names.

They did their due diligence and picked the best candidate even though he wasn't the players #1 pick. He did a follow up move by promoting John Lucas to make everyone else happy. This is going really well.

Who do we see focusing on the defense?

I'm not sure. Usually these guys don't have a specialty at that age. They get pigeon holed and master it. Silas was a defensive specialist for the first half of his career and now he's viewed as an offensive savant. I think we see a group effort from this staff and they feel it out and work together vs. having coordinators.

I remember DeSagana Diop when he played, he played Power Forward. Useful player he knows how to play off the bench.
    10 points 10 rebounds

Tilman wants to know if Diop can be a coach/player hybrid and get paid less than vet minimum

Do not approve of this strategy. Bring in an experienced D assistant.

If they get Weaver (which I am skeptical they will) it will be his defense to run with Silas being involved. Weaver is a perfect fit for the style Silas wants to play and the roster the Rockets have. He plays a lot of drop coverage and will switch.

He is just an excellent fit in just about every way.

More importantly he is also familiar with Jonah Bolden and Ryan Broekhoff.

Not to mention Aron Baynes and Ben Simmons. :)

Weaver is the top candidate in OKC, he's not coming here

Is Weaver an all round coach or is he a defensive specialist?
Edit: I'm sorry I didn't read the posts above. I hope he will recover soon from Covid-19. He sounds like an exciting coach. Health comes first.

    Some background on Weaver:

2013-2016 assistant with the Sixers during their tankathon. I'd count that as almost zero experience
2016-2018 assistant with the nets during the first two years of Atkinson's stint, both lotto seasons

in 5 years on an NBA bench he's been a part of a grand total of 95 wins. that's 19 wins per season. however, he did win 2019 g-league COY, joining the likes of nurse, snyder, finch, and Craig who have all proven themselves in the nba.

he's no sure thing. he doesn't have any experience even winning regular season nba games. but he's shown some potential in the g-league and the thunder seem to be high on him. if he was joining MDA and bzdelik as a third coach with some potential and maybe some new ideas I think he'd be a great hire. but we've got the new ideas, high potential guy in Silas. we need the defensive specialist and I don't think that's who he is.

Hornacek hasn't proved anything as a coach

    year, ortg, drtg
    '14, 8th, 14th
    '15, 17th, 19th
    '16, 28th, 24th
    '17, 18th, 25th
    '18, 20th, 22nd

I know those rosters were bad, and he did over perform in his first season but there's nothing here that says he's ready to help a team in win-now mode.

he's got less coaching experience than Silas. sure, more years as a head coach but without any success. he's not known for defense. and if he's only bringing knowledge of off ball movement, again we have that in Silas. he just doesn't add anything to our staff.

sagana diop is interesting though. 4 years under Snyder is a good start to a career. again, he's not the defensive assistant we need but an up and coming coach for the end of the bench, sure.

still looking for a defensive specialist to get on the rockets radar.

The fact we don't have assistants with proven track records is very worrisome. Who the hell is gonna hold Harden & WB accountable? Damn sure not a young assistant
