I don't know if he's even close, IIRC, with smaller rosters and more unforgiving injury lists, the 10 day contract used to be more frequently employed in the 80's.
All I know is Harris gave us some very quality play during the 22 game streak. Sign him up! The only people here from that team are... chuck and scola, right?
I would love to see Mike Harris spend an entire season with the Rockets, but I'm not sure who we'd get rid of to accomplish that.
He was always trade bait in a package for a superstar. If the Rockets offered future picks, they would've been projected as late first rounders. T-Will greater value than a future Rockets pick if they got a superstar.
My guess is that either this is a 10-day contract (in which case Harris's contract will simply run out about the time that Chase returns) or it's a two-year deal with the second season being completely unguaranteed (like the deals that Harris and Alexander Johnson signed late last season). If it is the latter, then note the date on which is it being signed. By signing a deal this week (prior to March 23), Harris will be eligible to be traded on draft day (June 23, three months after Harris signs as a free agent). It may not sound like a big deal or anything, but that's additional salary flexibility that might be able to incrementally swing a trade one way or another.
Look at the guys CBA stats for Shanghai- http://www.latinbasket.com/player.asp?Cntry=PUR&PlayerID=42752 29 games 34.1 MPG 24.7 PPG (59.4% FG, 44.3% 3ptFG, 80.6% FT) 14.7 RPG 1.4 APG (2 TOPG) 1.5 SPG 1.2 BPG I wonder what his PER is?
Interesting. One more thing: I think CBA (and other interntional leagues) have begun using a longer 3-pt line this year. If that 44.3% is close to reflecting Mike Harris' long range shooting ability on NBA 3s, he might find a niche he didn't have before.
NICE!! Im a big fan of Mike Harris. He brings the scrappy hustle were gonna need to for this playoff push. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/8ifQp5V-epo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
YES !!!! This is what I hoped for when Budinger went out. A blessing in disguise, Harris is a work horse! The Blast from the Past!!!
