pretty much agree. how would a knick buyout of curry change their 2010 cap situation? it looks like with the 105% rule that the knicks would be around 39.6 mil w/o curry and with any 2 of lebron/wade/bosh.
Both of those teams are shallow at the PF position. Of course they want him off the bench. We on the other hand already have two PFs that currently put up better numbers than him. They also aren't knuckleheads.
I kinda figured that. If they make either deal, do you think scola or landry is out? I say this because if they like hill and think he is a future star based on his uptick, he needs minutes. Now I'm not saying give him minutes, but i think he needs 18 minutes a night if we're building towards the future. Now morey can't force adelman to do so other than taking a player out the mix. In the case of thomas, i think its pretty much the same,he needs minutes also. They need to get a good evealuation of him and try to decide whether or not to offer him a tender or let him walk this summer.
Nobody can predict the future. Ney Yorker gets cap space to sign 2 max players. If they signed two very good players to pair with David Lee, they could be better than Chicago in the near tuture.
I really haven't seen him much, but i do know he was the 4th pick overall in the 2006 NBA draft, but any who, the Nuggets & the Spurs are in heavy persuit after him and both of those clubs are rally good at evaluating talent.... In addition, look at what the rockets staff was able to do with Carl Landry, Imagine what they could do with some one as physically gifted as Tyrus Thomas.... PS. The bulls deal i would much rather take Jerome James(expiring) than either Hinrich or Salmons, but who knows what their proposing... --RB
i dont like thomas at all he is talented and athletic but he has not panned out to the player he should have been i dont see why so many people are so high on him. as much as I HATE the guy if noah was included instead of thomas i'd do the chicago trade but as of right now with no mention of a first round pick and having to take on thomas who even if he is flipped by thursday's deadline it doesnt seem he would net you much..portland got camby and SA is looking to move mcdyess and NY harrington for the guy. do not want either in this scenario. Salmons is more serviceable at the wing spot than Jefferies but salmons never really struck me as someone who I can depend on. At least with jefferies I can depend on him defensively not to be a liability. imo salmons is too inconsistent on both ends. and ultimately it comes down to the picks as bima mentioned the 2011 pick swap could be great as NY more than likely will have a high pick I think the 2012 pick will be the lower of the two anyway. also with all those who are labelling Hill as a bust, the guy is barely into his rookie season with no real playing time since lee logs so many minutes at C and harrington at PF or C. he hasnt had the time yet i would rather take a chance on Hill at a rookie scale salary to develop as a backup C/PF for this team over the next 2-3 years than have thomas for 2 months and then possibly leave this summer. Hill spent 3 years at Arizona, a good basketball program, generally I trust players who stay at college 2+ years to turn out to be good role players since they would have spent more time learning the fundamentals. Look at all the players Morey has drafted they have all been seniors except Chase who was a junior (from that same arizona program) unless something else is being kept from us regarding the bulls scenario (2 first round picks?) I go with the NYK every day of the week
ok thanks for your suggestion. however as good as tyrus may sound attractive to those elite franchises, do u think tyrus is really that good in a vacuum? not everything the spurs or the nuggets touch turns into a piece of diamond remember, we have scola and landry at PF. is that not enough that we have to go get a 20 minute per game bench player to congest the PF along with Yao? spurs are just desperate for change as their franchise is heading downhill faster than the skiers sliding down a mountain. now they are trying to find the skidbrakes for that by getting rid of old 50 year olds like antonio mcdyess for younger talent to improve their future when duncan declines. nuggets are just taking off their pants for any big man they can find. they are hot on the heels of ANY big man they can get. they called milwaukee for hakim warrick and kurt thomas. they wanted marcus camby with a last ditch effort to pry him away from the clippers. not exactly means tyrus is any special.
at 6'7 he would only be able to play center ahead of chuck hayes. you're right, his versatility is nice, but we have no room for him at small forward. we already have battriza, chase, and in this case salmons playing the 2/3. with scolandry at the 4, and hayes & miller at the 5. i see thomas getting no real minutes here. on the other hand jordan hill is 6'10 with a 7'2 wingspan. he can be groomed to play center full time.
NY deal = bad because the players are not helping now, Hill might be able to help in 2-3 years. Bulls deal = good because it helps us in everything except a good SG. It gives us a center who knows RA with SIZE and can be the back-up next year Thomas is athletics, gives us shot blocking, rebounding (which we definetly need!!) and when the offseason comes they will probably choose between him and Scola. If they go with Scola, Thomas can be dealt for a nice player since many teams want Tyrus. Salmons / James are just like Dorsey / Cook, to make the salaries work according to the ESPN article.
Great post... I agree with you. We don't know exactly what the Bulls package is, but unless it includes a good pick or two, my feeling is: 1) The Rockets leaked this Chicago-or-New York by today thing, knowing both are desperate to clear cap room. 2) The Rockets are using Chicago to get New York to budge on their pick protection demands. The Rockets hold the cards... at least that is their feeling. They were confident last night. It goes without saying, but their insistence is they're not doing anything to help out Chicago or New York unless it significantly helps them. I much prefer the deal with the Knicks. I would probably take Thomas over Hill, but it's all about the picks. Tremendous assets -- real or perceived. They can move those and will be in position to tempt some teams this summer. As for LeBron, I'm with you -- I think he stays in Cleveland, but I do have that "wanting to be the first billionaire athlete" thing ringing in my head, and if that's his drive you would think he'd want to go to New York.
If they aquire Thomas, I personally think that would be a precursor to either Scola or Landry getting moved in a seperate deal out of left field. There has to be more to this if you look at Moreys past moves.
This is the truth, and if we make the NY deal then I feel comfortable with the idea DM looked at the odds and thought it was worth the gamble. I just don't see NY getting worse, no matter what goes down in free agency, with a very real chance to get substantially better (not compete for a title better, but getting out of the lottery better). And like I said later on, I think TT is a very well regarded player. Unfortunately when people see amazing athleticism they automatically assume that a player isn't good enough if they are not a superstar. Tyrus effects the game, period.
as bima said, it depends on the protection of the picks... and as you say, depends on the chicago picks (if included at all). honestly, i dont care about this season at all. best we can do is a first round bust again. so i'm not interested in chicago players. i want picks... good picks.
Thomas shouldn't have been drafted at 4 or whatever spot he was drafted, but he's a ok player still getting better. Now, how good will he be is another story. I like Hill also, but playing in ny and on a losing team might be too much for him to handle. We've seen it in other sports about playing in ny and its not the easiest thing to do. Both players ahve upside which is good to have. I would probably take the chicago deal because of maybe making the playoffs this year which equals more revenue for the team and giving the young players another taste of the playoffs.
The only way I would consider the Chicago deal is if their 2010 1st rounder is included (trade like this could knock them out of playoffs?) or Noah. It makes NO sense to me why the Rockets would take the package as it's presently proposed. Brad Miller can be signed whether he's on the Rockets or not. Tyrus Thomas has shown little to prove that he's better than either Scola or Landry, AND he's in line for a raise this summer just to keep him. John Salmons is decent, but not enough for me to give up McGrady. At least the Knicks offer gives us a useful young player still on his rookie scale. I just don't understand the Chicago deal, unless Bima has shown it would save us more money, which I don't think he's said.
It's not that simple. I thought Salmons has one more year left on his contract? Aslo, with Jeffries on the team, Rockets will not have the money to sign anybody this summer unless they let Scola or Lowry walk.
I am for whichever deal that the 3rd team wants that will land us one of Bosh/Jefferson/Iguodala/Kevin Martin, etc.
