There's no promise that we can resign Miller. We have a better chance signing him after the season is over.
Probably right. But you can play Scola more at the 5 if you have a shotblocker like TT protecting him. Haven't had that luxury otherwise this year. Put any 2 of Scola, Landry, and Andersen on the floor together and it's a layup drill for the other team.
its more telling that thomas lost his starting spot to a rookie, than it is that lowry and landry have yet to pass brooks and scola. or that hill has yet to pass al harrington and david lee.
All these scrubs thinking of helping the situation NOW. News Flash! we aren't going anywhere this year for those who want the chicago deal. Increasing our record this season will just screw our lottery chances. Its almost a knee jerk reaction to the way the season is going.
Something I've been thinking about: Surely there are players on that Knicks roster Houston is interested in, be it Gallinari, Lee or something else other than picks. Walsh has said 'hands off' on those two pieces. If the Jeffries deal is so crucial to their future, though, then they would have to be willing to give up a piece nice enough that we would want back (in this deal the picks are the only thing, and they are gambling their future but like the odds). Something doesn't seem right here: either they have an escape plan regarding Jeffries that leaves them okay next year, maybe over the summer, or there is something else we are not aware of.
Chicago's pick could still turn out to be in the lottery while NY could be a playoff team from next season onwards or even starting this season.
i just feel like phoenix gets involved, i dont know why...i mean steve kerr was on hand for the 13 in 35 so he could have a little bit of a man crush.
harrington and lee are good players, hill being a rookie probably wouldn't and shouldn't be playing before them. that's like saying dorsey should be playing in front of landry and scola, but who knows, given PT, Hill could produce. he's definitely has the build for it.
but noone is talking about chicago's pick. They're talking about how Brad miller and tyrus thomas will help the rockets' current situation...
All these losers thinking of tanking NOW. News Flash! The HOUSTON ROCKETS DO NOT lose to increase their lottery chances!!!!
People seem to forget that we got Brooks as the 26th pick of the draft. Even if the knicks get LeBron and are good, we can still get a decent player. Of course, if they suck..... we win more
You know, I think this may be the best PROBABLE scenario for New York as far as "big name free agents" is concerned when it's all said and done. Getting Joe Johnson, re-signing David Lee, maybe one additional minor free agent, and filling out the roster with league minimum guys. Meanwhile, the team will have lost Tracy McGrady, Nate Robinson, Al Harrington, Chris Duhon, and the players traded to Houston (Hill and Jeffries, who despite his contract is a very underrated defensive weapon for the Knicks). How much better does THAT Knicks team look than this year's team? Technically, yes. But they cannot take back any salary in return, or they'll lose the cap space they need to get the two max guys. Something like a S&T of David Lee to an under-the-cap team (so that Lee can get more money on his deal) in exchange for a future pick would probably be something the Knicks would look into. But still, no team is going to trade any future lottery picks just so that David Lee can get higher annual raises and a sixth year on his deal. No offense or anything, but if you don't actually know the answer, it would be better for you to say nothing than to inadvertantly spread misinformation. It is situations like these (when the post is from a fairly good poster like yourself, CheezeyBoy) that cause the MOST confusion on this BBS for the less well-informed.
You said something about tanking. "Increasing our record this season will just screw our lottery chances". Tanking is not doing everything possible to win, you don't want the Rockets to "increase our record". In other words, you don't want the Rockets to do everything possible to win. Sounds like tanking to me.
If LeBron goes to the Knicks and they make the playoffs next year. What will their acquired picks be worth? Maybe Chicago's picks are safer? We really are talking picks here only. I wouldn't look past that fact for any real value. Go Morey!
BimaThug, after this supposed NY or Chi trade, what will our chances be of signing a top tier free agent like Lebron, Wade, Bosh or Johnson? Im so confused and I don't wanna act like I know everything!
durvasa, you're a stat guy. On impulse, I compared the college numbers between Hill, Emeka Okafor (same height, heavier - otherwise very comparable, imo), and Thomas. Both Hill and Okafor played 3 years with good college programs. Except for blocks, their numbers and progression were remarkably similar. Hill better at the charity stripe, Okafor a better shot blocker. Hill's "team impact" was actually greater using Stat Sheet.com's metrics, as was his improvement season by season. Okafor is more of a 5 than a 4, but otherwise, I was surprised at how much alike their numbers were. Thomas, on the other hand, played one season at LSU and his numbers there, while good overall, were just as inconsistent then as now. Food for thought and it makes me lean towards New York. Hill is only a rookie and is locked up at a rookie salary.
