As I said last year, he was done. Wasn't going to be the "vet", wasn't going to be better than luther. If a minimum upgrade is what you were looking at, that was piss poor in the first place. At best, he should been late summer signing notg first guy signed. Can't guards 2/3 spot, can't create a shot, not a slasher, why was he even considered is beyond me. Top it off, he's soft.

...because Morey couldn't somehow pull off that coup of a trade in getting that stud Ricky Davis...

I thought he was expecting to end his career as a Houston Rocket? So the Barry families are all retired as Rockets?

Just be classy and buy him out.

What exactly could you get for Brent Barry at this point?

    He's done.

Your expectations are too high IMO.

People on this board were overrating him based on one good game in the playoffs. He was coming after missing almost 2/3 of the previous season,at the age of 37. He was being touted not only as a shooter, but as a playmaker when he hadn't played in the latter role under Pop.Someone said it was because of his poor defense. He failed to pass the ball effectively even as a backup.

He was injured in the beginning of the season and didn't have a passer to set him up,but it's not difficult to guard an aging player even with double teams being sent after Yao and McGrady. DM may have had no other choice with the bi-annual exception, but he tried to spin the acquisition as a big one, when it was obvious that Barry had limitations.

I will be happy if we can create an extra roster space.

I agree he did not add much...so far our organizations take on getting players with "some tread left on the tires" has not worked out.

It didn't have to be ricky davis, it couldve been Matt Barnes. Barry was done his last year with the spurs and people on this board was taalking like he was going to play 20+ mins and be ready for the playoffs. If people on this board actually watched games beside the rockets and watched barry, they wouldve seen he was done. He was too slow and weak to play for Sa in the playoffs and had 1 game to boosst his aavg to 5 ppg. Davis was hurt last year, what was Barry's excuse?.

The Clippers have no incentive to give him up. A young, athletic big who has shown promise is worth far more than Brent Barry.

he's a big reason why Aaron excelled this year, the guy constantly was there givgin him advice, a pat on the back, a good screaming, etc. He did it with other young guys as well. Im pretty sure Houston had this down as part of his duties and not simply his play on the court. We had deke provide a smilar push off the court, but even deke can't relate to the guards like Brent can.

It was a JVG like move, which had little chance of success IMO.

Deke was more than a cheerleader and locker room presence,Barry was not.

Do you think the Rockets did not watch Barry before signing him, or perhaps they didn't know what they were watching? Remember, it wasn't Clutchfans that signed Barry to the deal. An actual professional basketball organization, with presumably hours of tape at their disposal to study, did so.

I think reasonable people watch a basketball player and form different conclusions on how well he'll help the team. Similar to how you thought Brian Cook could be a good player for us, while other reasonable people did not. Things don't always work out like we hope they might.
