I know that Morey likes the D'Antoni system, but I do agree that this is not his hire. It's also the hire that probably gets him fired because it will likely end in a power struggle.

Except that the Rockets don't have the same level of talent as the Nash-led Suns or the Curry-led Warriors. Not even close. I get why Les is hiring D'Antoni. But if he doesn't have the right personnel, what difference does it make how great of an offensive coach he supposedly is?

Also, did Les not notice how unbelievably awful the Rockets were on defense last season? To the point where they didn't even try on most plays. They were so lackadaisical, they refused to run back on defense and had JVG calling them out on national TV in Game 4 vs. Golden State. So his solution is to bring in a coach notorious for not emphasizing that end of the court?

If this is truly against Morey's wishes as you allege, then I hope he resigns. There's no reason to continue to sit there and do Les' bidding if he disagrees with it. All he's doing it harming his own reputation in the league and potentially limiting his future prospects.

Les owns the team, Morey runs it. There's a difference. If the owner truly doesn't trust his GM to make basketball decisions, then he needs to quit. What's the point of a GM if he is not able to manage.

I think Morey is making decisions and talking heads that don't know what's going on are releasing reports with no evidence. Sure, Les can veto Morey but I don't think Les is the Jerry Jones of the NBA.

Guaranteed he will be our coach, it's only a matter of which assistants... :(

    1) Les has always been VERY active in the coaching process. It was Les who clashed with JVG and let him go and it was Les that chose to hire McHale. Not that Morey objected, but that was a Les call.

    2) Les said himself he would be taking a more active role in the decisions made this offseason.

I recognize I didn't like the news initially, even though I intuited it could happen since the first moment his name sounded. And honestly, the more I think about it, the more I think it could work out well for both parties.

    Just one very important thing:

If you choose D'Antoni, you're buying into his philosophy, that fits very well with the one the Rockets believe in, and with having Harden, BUT, everything you do must be totally coordinated together to find success. That means the profile of the roster of course, but also the assistant coaches. Signing a Grizzlies defensive specialist and put him together with D'Antoni is not gonna work. He can be a great specialist on a very different kind of basketball/defense. With D'Antoni you're going to need defensive specialists experienced into an up-tempo game. Hopefully we do all the things correctly. Assistants will be as important as HC decision.

Ya know, even if Les had gone with someone like Kenny Smith, at least I could say...Well, thank god didn't pick Pringles.

    Sigh....

Well you can take solace in the fact that the Rockets are basically only holding off hiring D'Antoni because they are are trying to work out who could be on his staff.

Les is just too old as you look at his photo, and his brains may have some problems too.

I would feel better about it if the Rockets took Nook's suggestion and tried to hire away Ron Adams from GSW to handle the defense.

    I'm done, I'm finished.

I've been a Rockets fan the entire duration of Leslie Alexanders tenure. I have defended the man hundreds of times, even when he forced bad decisions on the organization because I have personally felt he has always been willing to pay out for a good team. But at some point you have to realize it's these few completley bone headed decisions he forces down the organizations throat that is truly tarnishing the franchise.

If they pass on JVG and.. *gulp* and really do sign D'Antoni, that's it for me.

Rockets Organization/Gear and Season tickets.. Nope, not a penny from me. My time watching games? Nope, will not occur.

I'll see you when we have a new owner

I'll be a Rockets fan but I wont be an active Rockets fan until a change of ownership happens

We want consistent Red and Yellow uniforms and I guarantee not even getting those are a Leslie Alexander decision. I'm fed up with it and I'm done. Morey was the only good basketball related decision he has made and I wouldn't be surprised if he lets his contract run out before getting rid of him.

Here he is at the Sloan Conference last year. If you listen to the whole thing, he says some interesting things. But if you skip to 52:55, he answers the question about correlating having a great defense with a fast-paced offense like the Warriors have.

Also a question from the audience later that was funny. Earlier in the video he talks about ball stoppers on offense. So, the audience member asked him how did he try to coach up Melo to play differently. he just laughed and pretty much pleaded the fifth.

I will come here to post any negative things for this team whenever I have a time. This owner seems to be such a joke.

Delusionals trying to pin this mess all on Les. This is the epitome of Moreyball.

D'antonio preaches Moreyball and will not hold Harden accountable. This is what this organization wants.

A more active role means what? I don't think he would ignore the professionals he hired and go against their advice.

Morey: Hiring D'antoni would be a horrible decision because ... He's the worst of the candidates
Alexander: It doesn't matter. I like him. My team, my decision.
Morey: I'm not going to be the scape-goat for your dumb decisions. I quit.

I think it is more like:

Les: Daryl, what do you think about Mike?
Morey: He's not my favorite. I like ... better but I think Mike will work. He has ...
Les: I like him too. Since we both like him, let's have him in for a 2nd interview.
