If nothing else, I was just happy to hear a CURRENT report of what's going on with Bob Sura. To hear that Sura has been on the treadmill and got back on the court again a few days ago tells me he hasn't given up on the 2006-2007 season. I still haven't pencilled him into my depth chart, but it's more good news than bad. I'll take that and Novak praises until I can get something better to sink my teeth into. Go Rockets!
Man JVG pulls some stuff out of his behind sometimes. Marcus banks is not 5'10 he's taller than Troy Hudson who is 6'1 (closer to 6'2). remember JVG said that Luther Head was 5'10 also and I've seen luther in person @ the Galleria once and he's almost as tall as me (6'4). I'm losing more an more patience and faith in the Rockets Front Office the more the offseason unfolds.
I think the reference to needing a solid backup point guard really means someone who is capable of starting. He's just being diplomatic on account of rafer.
Well said. James is the one who's overvaluing himself. Truth is the only reason James was able to "front" for all these teams was because there were very few quality players on the market to begin with - basic supply and demand. The man thinks he's the second coming of Jesus, so he thinks "I'm going to grudgingly accept this MLE deal even though I want more, but I'll demand a player option so I can skip town when somebody's got more money to offer me, AND a trade kicker so they can't dump me if I don't work out for them." Houston and Dallas say "heck no", while desperate Kevin McHale says "yes, anything ... just keep KG happy plz." I don't think anyone has also realized the fact that one of the reasons James wanted the player option was the fact that the salary cap is due to increase significantly at that time (same reason LeBron signed for only 3 years). He really thinks he's all that and can go get an even fatter contract when his 3 years are up.
I'm still hoping JLIII and Sura are helping Rafer with the PG duties. I don't think Vspan will ever play for us.
Jeff, I'm not on Feigan's case. He was just the mouthpiece expressing what he was hearing and feeling from the front office. I was pointing out the absurditiy of the thinking of the front office on this one. CD is talking on 610 right now and he is confirming that the reason they would not do the trade kicker is because they have never done it before for anyone including Hakeem and they would not want to start now because it makes it too hard to move players. And the point is, that is precisely why James wanted it, because he is tired of moving from team to team with no love. He wants to stay somewheres for 3 years or at least have a little bit of power to decide whether or not he wants to stay or move on. The reasoning that CD is giving is just garbage. Special players, special cases. Where is the common sense? Mike James wanted a commitment from a team and to know that a team really wanted him for the next few years, not so said team could accumulate an asset to shuffle off to another team the first chance they got. And CD is basically saying that they wanted the luxury to move James if they felt to move him. In other words, they were only viewing James in the short run and as a piece to help acquire another piece down the road instead of viewing James as part of their core for the next 3 years. James is a good enough player to be considered a part of the core of our team for the next three years. Negotiations are negotiations. We're worried about establishing a precedent??? Like if we give MJ a trade kicker, then we automatically have to include the trade kicker in any other contract offer to any other player??? Special players, special cases. This was a special player and a special case. Our front office blew it. His salary would represent approximately 10% of the salary cap and probably around 8% or less of our payroll long term. And we get this type of reasoning from a team that gave Matt Maloney a contract for how many years and then cut him??? It doesn't make any sense. Our front office blew it.
CD was just on SR-610 and he talked up VSpan, saying he was hoping to see him after the World Games in Japan. Sure seems that the front office and coach need to get on the same page...
Let's think about this logically... We have a fairly weak bench roster. We lost on Mike James (which I think is a good thing) so that means we are going to have to bring in another guard. That does not mean there won't be room for JL3. Think about it this way... He is probably going to be the MVP of the summer league. He has played for JVG before and he knows our system. We traded our first round pick this year. JL3 could more or less help us in the necessary youth area. We need quickness. We need someone who knows how to run the team. We need someone cheap. Honestly...where else are you going to get a better combination than from Lucas? If he doesn't stick with the team this year there is something SERIOUSLY wrong with either him or our front office. In my opinion, JL3 is an absolute lock to make this team.
I see the best option available over the picked through free agents, is Rasual Butler. The guy is a great catch and shoot SF/SG, that plays on both ends of the floor. I certainly hope we can pick him and maybe Reggie Evans up.
Exactly!! Janathon is the mouth of the Rockets and he tell you what they want you to hear. If he is telling you the truth the effort which CD is making to put our team together is very limited and will NOT be a contender. I say about 9th in the WEST- Wish I could say otherwise
Whatever happened, it's done. MJ is not going to be a Rocket. We didn't show him the love he wanted. He is bitter and mad about it even now. Actually, it's no one's fault. MJ wanted what he wanted. CD's hands were tied with no trader rider under any circumstance. The winner is.... another FA who now gets a chance to play in Houston.
