Yeah, right. Since so far the only person they have taken down was white. I'm pretty sure that for those Congressional hearings they didn't only bring in black players.
Kids, who may follow in those footsteps if there is no apparently penalty. That's not directly on Bonds, but its a general culture thing, and Bonds the biggest symbolic hit. And he presumably put himself in that position by lying to the grand jury and losing his immunity. This is the same as everyone saying "oh, nothing will come of the Congressional hearings." "it's just a media circus and grandstanding" etc. Lots of good comes out of putting a huge spotlight on major problems.
....that is specifically associated with Barry Bonds? Yes, to my knowledge that is it. If there are others, and there might be, I don't know of them. BALCO is now out of business and the architect of the scheme, Mr. Conte, paid his debt to society for his various crimes....Four ENTIRE months. The fact that the prime actor in this affair committed an offense for which the he could get out after 4 months (I imagine he probably was sentenced to 8 and got time off), seems, to me, anyway, to lend credence to my impression that this is an area of crime on which society puts a low priority (as do I). Do you not agree?
Absolutely spot on. We should forgive Bonds because of his race. In fact, we should grant amnesty to all African American criminals. After all, the justice system shouldn't be racist.
If that book from this spring is to be believed, Barry was involved in a lot more than just BALCO's cream & clear stuff. And the fact that the feds have been tracking Grimsley & HGH for a while now tells me that their interest goes well beyond just BALCO. I think that is just one piece of a much larger puzzle here. I do feel, however, that the 4 month thing is disappointing. That provides no disincentive whatsoever for the next BALCO.
