Even though Federer is pretty much god of tennis, Roddick did well enough despite his glaring weaknesses. If Andy had more than just his forehand, he would have won.
Roddick only has one of the biggest, if not the biggest, serves in the game. His second serve is consistently over 100 mph, which is not the norm. His forehand is fantastic, but his backhand was consistent tonight and his net game was very good. His service game was stellar. I don't think Roddick's weaknesses really showed much tonight. He played at a very high level. He just got outplayed by the superior opponent. I don't believe anyone could have beaten Federer tonight. It's amazing how he can just flip a switch and raise his game when he needs to. It's also amazing how, despite what the score is, Federer never seems to get tight, and his posture and demeanor don't change. He's all business. Never let them see you sweat.
That's like saying, "If the Texans could intercept four of Peyton Manning's passes, they'd win every game against the Colts."
Hahhaha it's not THAT much of a stretch. Roddick played damn well today but there were times he could have taken control but didn't because he seems to hate the other side of the court.
Roddick's backhand is something that could be improved. All I'm saying is, if he should use the backhand more.
andy seems like such a cocky b*stard, i LOVE watching federer thrashing him around. andy's a great player who has played some tremendous matches against roger, but federer still makes it looks so easy against him.
see i dont get that feel from him at all...sure hes competitive, but def seems like a guy you could just kick it with. Federer the same way, what I found amazing is how Federer didnt look tired, think the commentators mentioned that a few times, that and you could tell at times during the match, the crowd got behind Roddick almost wanting him to beat Federer. Yet Federer kept his composure and was pretty classy going about his business, i respect that
roddick is american and playing in new york so it's likely the bulk of the crowd was behind him. on the other hand federer's greatness has captured a lot of fans so who knows. on top of being fantastically skilled, roger can play all night. once you drop a set to him it's over, because he's simply not going to get tired before you do. sampras is my all time favorite tennis player but roger's making his way up to him.
He should surpass Sampras in Grand Slam singles titles and then some. Without looking it up, I believe if Federer wins this US Open, he'll have 12 Grand Slams to his credit. Pete's record stands at 14. Roger Federer is only 26 years old.
Sampas at his peak ("Peak" Sampas, Ha!) vs current Federer, who do you think will win? Wow, it would be so much fun to watch their back hand rallies. I'd say Federer in 5 sets.
federer on clay, sampras on grass, toss up on hard courts. anyway, i feel bad for roddick, he played amazing and still lost in 3 sets.
I would feel bad for someone else. But I laugh because it was Roddick that it happened to. At least because of the high quality of play it was an entertaining match.
That's odd. To me Roddick seems like a cocky frat-boy, date rapist. I'm sure he's nice to his friends, but I don't think there is one issue I could relate to Roddick on except maybe tennis. Roger is amazing. He practices regularly in Dubai in 100 degree plus heat. Thus conditions elsewhere in the world aren't draining to him, plus he's just so solid that he can limit the wear and tear on his body during a match. I don't really cheer for Roger normally because he's just so good, that I like to go for the underdogs. But in someone like Roddick, I will definitely go Roddick's opponent everytime. If it's Hewitt then I would just hope they could somehow both lose.
