    The death penalty is more about revenge and vengeance than it is justice. I don't feel any government has the right to use death as a punishment. I wonder why you do.

    I believe a government has the right to pass laws and levy punishments that correspond with the severity of those crimes if the laws are broken.

    Speeding = Ticket
    Assualt = Jail Time
    Rape = Years and Years in Prison
    Murder = Life in prision
    Murder(s) + Rape + Robbery = Death

    Those are simplified but you get the picture. Do the crime and get the punishment. I'm not saying everyone should die, but due to the nature of some crimes committed against society some criminals have lost the right to life by depriving others of that right. It's not about vengence it's about justice. Vengence would be letting the family have a go at the criminal in the same manner in which their loved ones have been violated.

    What do you do to get disemboweled, or dismembered and have your limbs sent to the 4 corners of the nation? And it seems like castration would be a more 'logical' punishment for rape, eh? Losing a hand for theft, getting flogged for assault, etc.

    You just don't get it do you? It's the law. Commit this crime get this punishment. Don't like the punishment, don't do the crime. These punishments are set forth by our legislature and deemed appropriate.

    You would rather we just continue the revolving door prison system where criminals go to hone their skills then get released to perpetrate their crimes time and time again? :rolleyes:

    Personally I would favor tougher sentences with no chance of early parole. And I would have no problem with castration for a person convicted of multiple rapes.

    It never fails to amaze me how people care about the rights of criminals more than they care about the rights of the victims and law abiding citizens.

    If/when you see the destruction caused by a murder or rape first hand, and have to deal with the grief and suffering of the victims, you may change your tune... or you may invite the criminal over for another round of being violated after their early release.

    Rape has nothing to do with sex.

    Just because something is the law means it's moral. I don't think it's moral to rape and kill someone. But I also don't think it's moral to kill that person. I do think it's fine to lock them up forever and throw away the key. Why do people always act like it has to be a choice between death and letting them walk free?

    Rape is an act of violence commited in a sexual manner. I believe rape has a lot to do with sex. The two go hand in hand. Show me a case of non-sexual rape! This is another topic, and their are experts who are on both sides of this argument. There are convicted serial rapists who have asked for castration because they believe rape is about sex. If you want to start another thread about rape... go ahead. I won't discuss it any longer in this one.

    Read the thread! I never said "it has to be a choice between death and letting them walk free". What I've stated over and over is... many people feel, in the most extreme cases, the punishment of death fits the crime. I've also stated I'm all for "lock them up forever and throw away the key". I want to be tougher on the criminal, not easier. Don't ask me to weep for convicted rapist and murders "rights".

    A concise way of saying this is to just emphatically proclaim 'CASE CLOSED'. I agree with your side of this argument whole-heartedly.

    but see how he didn't do that, TJ?? he left it open for further discussion...and maintained some modicum of courtesy in doing so...in addition, he didn't look like a horse's ass, like he would have with the declaratory, CASE CLOSED.
