This post reminded me of a question that I didn't really want to start a new thread for: Can anyone tell me the max/best/whatever resolution/output/whatever a PS2 is capable of? I currently have my PS2 hooked up via the standard RCA cables on a Sony Wega Trinitron HD ready TV, for whatever that's worth. The TV itself is capable of S-Video and HD, but as I mentioned it is only HD ready. I don't have a HD cable box/converter thing. I looked for the owners manual for both the PS2 and the TV to see any other specs that may be helpful, but I couldn't find either. Anyone care to drop some knowledge?
The PS2 doesn't really do very well at resolutions above 480i/p (480p is kind of asking a lot from it at that). I can only recall GT4 being in HD (@ 1080i), and even that was a bit of a cheat. Never really tried it or looked into it, but I'd guess that you would want to hook your PS2 up to your TV using component cables if you wanted the best quality video (though it might just be a minimal difference). I think the component cables for the PS2 go for around $20 or so...maybe even less (just searched Amazon for them).
anyone here have the xbox360 winning eleven 2007? if so, have you guys tried to play with people you know, people on your friends list? i'm not sure how to connect specifically to a certain player. can i not do this for a ranked match? it just shows random people and it's a crapshoot when you try to search a match your friend created...
Virtua Fighter 5 (PS3) http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/action/virtuafighter5/review.html?sid=6166151 Spoiler 8.1 at Gamespot, 88 at Metacritic. Seems like the lack of any online features really hurts the game. AM2 needs to figure this stuff out. Sonic and the Secret Rings (Wii) http://www.gamespot.com/wii/action/sonicrevolution/review.html?sid=6166173 Spoiler 7.6 at Gamespot, 76 at Metacritic. The best Sonic game in a while. Way better than the trash they put on the 360 and PS3. I just found out about this. Looks like buying Crackdown was a good thing. http://xbox360.vggen.com/news/news.php?id=3907 Halo 3 Beta Vehicle 'Crackdown' Ships for Xbox 360 By: Jared Black In a move highly reminiscent of past manuevers such as Konami's bundling of a playable Metal Gear Solid 2 demo in with Zone of the Enders, Microsoft announced today that anticipated sandbox title Crackdown w/Halo 3 beta entry has shipped to retail. Fortunately the game itself also looks pretty good, perhaps making the bundle one of the better values so far this year. You'll find the press release below: Microsoft Game Studios today announced that the highly anticipated action title "Crackdown" is now available on store shelves. From developer Realtime Worlds and the mind of acclaimed creator Dave Jones, "Crackdown" is currently setting its sights on retailers across North America. Gamers have already made the "Crackdown" demo on Xbox Live Marketplace the most downloaded demo within the first 24 hours as well as setting a record for total downloads during its first week of release. Since then, the demo has garnered nearly 1 million downloads in less than a month as gamers everywhere have been eagerly waiting the day that they can fully experience this nail-biting, action-packed title. "Excitement generated by the demo on Xbox Live Marketplace, and the resulting flood of community-generated video that gamers have created, has led Crackdown' to become one of the most anticipated games of this year," said Bob McKenzie, senior vice president of Merchandising at GameStop Corp. "Crackdown" is also one of the three ways to gain entry into the highly sought "Halo 3" multiplayer beta program. All copies of "Crackdown" available at launch will be specially marked with the "Halo 3" multiplayer beta sticker. Gamers will be able to use their retail copy of "Crackdown" to gain access to the beta when it becomes available later this year.* From Realtime Worlds, "Crackdown" pushes the action-driving hybrid genre into the next generation with the first-ever truly 3-D playground. Gamers will level up their Agent's strength, agility, firearms, explosives and driving skills while scaling the fully vertical world of "Crackdown." This M-rated game incorporates revolutionary cooperative gameplay throughout the entire free-form campaign.** Creating a volatile cocktail of judicial oppression, players will clean up the streets of a truly interactive world when "Crackdown" hits store shelves with an estimated retail price of $59.99. * "Halo 3" multiplayer beta requires Xbox Live Gold and a hard drive. ** Cooperative gameplay on "Crackdown" requires Xbox Live Gold. Got the full version of SupCom last night. I haven't played any of the single player missions but I have played a few skirmish games. AS far as the gameplay goes, if you have played TA and/or TAK then you will pick this up pretty easily. The functions are pretty similar, and many of the commands/shortcuts are the same. The main difference is the way the game treats the Tech tree. Instead of building constructions units you upgrade at each facility. There are 3 tiers and an engineer unit for each tier. Engineer units can build structures for their specific tier. All units can assist building regardless of tier (nice if you wanna crank out the nuke a little faster than normal). Resources ar ea major part of the things you build, as well as, upkeep of the structures. However, you don't really have to micro manage resources inmost situations. there may be a time where you have to turn off a building, like a shield generator, to have enough power to complete a build, but I never felt like I had to really focus my attention away from a battle to deal with resources. Once I balanced out my production with my consumption it was cake. the other major feature that GPG is touting is the split mode. By hitting the home key you can split your screen in two. One half can be used as a map and the other can be used as your view of the battle field. I do not have a wide screen monitor so this seemed a little cumbersome. With a WS I think it would really be a cool feature to utilize. Instead right now I am stuck scrolling in and out (which isn't all that bad, but it would be easier to use a map to target the area i want to go to). I am going to try this feature out a little more in the future. I will post about my actual game experience a little later.
played Def Jam:ICON demo last night, OMG it looks ****ing amazing. I'm buying this and i hate fighting games.
SupCom game experience: My first skirmish game I chose the UEF, I set my opponent to normal and random faction (they chose the Cybrans). The AI is named like it was in TAK so I was playing this game against Jessica. I decided to use my old TA tactics and build some defenses and tech up. I started by building some mass extractors on the mine areas, then I built some energy plants. Once I had those going I built an Air Unit Factory and an engineer. While building my second set of mass extractors I found an energy deposit so I built on that. While that was going on I built some tier one defenses with my engineer. After that building phase was complete I started upgrading. It seemed to work best doing 2 mass extractors at a time and building a few more energy plants. Once the mass extractors were upgraded I upgraded my factory and built a new engineer. During the factory upgrade I began to see some enemy scouts which my defenses handled easily. I continued to upgrade my facilities in the same manner adding the tier 2 engineer to build a stronger power plant (you cannot upgrade power structures). I also built a shield generator in the center of my base to protect some vital structures. At this point I was still seeing scouts come by and taking them out. I built a tier 3 engineer, took all my builders and started a Nuke silo. At this point I found a really cool feature in the game. When you hover over a structure or unit it tells you the stats to build it like the amount of mass and energy it will cost, and if it will use mass or energy once built, but the coolest feature is that it tells you how long the builder working by itself will take to build it on normal speed. It was then I realized the Nuke Silo would take my tier 3 builder exactly 86 min. 32s to finish it alone. So all the builders got in on the act. Then one of my defenses started firing on an enemy mass extractor, but couldn't hit it because of terrain. Annoyed as I was I decided to build a tier 3 bomber to take it out. I built the bomber (3:57), and proceeded to take out the offending structure. I also found the enemy had a build up of tier 1 units near it so I decided to take them out. My bomber worked with great efficiency and wiped out the entire squad nearest my base (about 40 units) So I decided to explore, I ventured near the enemy base and took some tier 1 defense fire, and found the enemy had built up about 200 units (all tier 1) so I thought lets see how many I can take out with one bomber. The answer was all of them, with a little help from a mistake. While targeting an enemy factory I accidentally bombed his commander. He blew up half his base with the thermonuclear explosion. I blasted the enemy down to one mass extractor, because I couldn't blow it up without trying out my nukes. I sped the game up to +10 and nuked his last remaining unit. It was a very fun game but I was a little disappointed in the Jessica AI. She built tons of units but never tried to rush me. My disappointment was short lived. I decided to try again. This time I got a different AI but cannot remember the name. I began again with my defense-tech up strategy. I started concentrating on getting my mass and energy production up. I made a mistake. Thinking that I would see a similar pattern of the enemy scouting me and just figuring to blast them with my commander, was fatal. Instead of sending in scouts the enemy pumped out a ton of tier 1's and rushed me. Had I built some defenses I probably would have been ok. But with nothing they quickly picked me apart. The game time was somewhere around 18 minutes. I was upset with the loss but impressed with the AI differences. Each named AI seems to play the game a bit differently. It is nice to see that you won't get the same strategy everytime you play the computer. Overall it is a pretty fun game, especially if you are in to RTS or the TA franchise. It has a very TA feel about it, and it seems to be really set up for modding. I am planning on jumping in to the single player campaigns this weekend and will probably play a few more skirmish games before jumping online to play.
Thanks for the impressions Castor. I've been playing the demo in my spare time these last few weeks, and I'm really enjoying it. Probably won't buy it right away since I'm kind of busy with school (the game seemed really addictive...don't need that right now ), but I think I might pick it up later in the year. BTW, the release for MLB 2K7 is being pushed up by a week (now 2/27), making it a February release now. Here's a preview: MLB 2K7 (360, PS3, PS2, PSP, Xbox) <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/5LtFGQOas88"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/5LtFGQOas88" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/sports/majorleaguebaseball2k7/news.html?sid=6164397&mode=recent I think the 360 and PS3 versions are supposed to be identical, except that the 360 version has rumble (of course) while the PS3 version lets you bat using the SIXAXIS controls. Find out more in the reviews I guess.
Damn MLB looks crazy good. If the playability has been improved, which it seems like it has, especially considering the a lot of people from MVP switched teams, then I might just have to get this one when I get my 360.
Romance of the Three Kingdoms XI (PS2) http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/strategy/romanceofthethreekingdomsxi/review.html?sid=6166361 Spoiler 6.9 at Gamespot, 68 at Metacritic. SSX Blur (Wii) http://www.gamespot.com/wii/sports/ssxblur/review.html?sid=6166500 Spoiler 7.4 at Gamespot, 68 at Metacritic (no GS score yet though). Formula One CE (PS3) http://www.gamespot.com/ps3/driving/f1/review.html?sid=6166496 Spoiler 7.4 at Gamespot, 74 at Metacritic (also no GS score yet). The graphics must be a lot worse in gameplay considering all the 8s it is getting in that department; in screens, it looks almost photorealistic IMO. BTW, I think the use-the-PSP-as-a-mirror feature isn't in the game (although I guess it might be added later). Bullet Witch (360) http://www.gamespot.com/xbox360/adventure/bulletwitch/review.html?sid=6166515 Spoiler 5.5 from Gamespot, 64 at Metacritic (again, no GS score yet). MLB 2K7 (Multi) http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/768/768722p3.html Spoiler 7.9 from IGN for the 360 version, 7.4 for the PS3 version. Seems like the PS3 version has more slowdown at weird times, and the SIXAXIS controls aren't all that great. No score yet for either at Metacritic.
