Houston is a cruel and crazy town on a filthy river in East Texas with no zoning laws and a culture of sex, money and violence. It's a shabby sprawling metropolis ruled by brazen women, crooked cops and super-rich pansexual cowboys who live by the code of the West -- which can mean just about anything you need it to mean, in a pinch. Funny article.

Thompson was played by Johnny Depp in a popular movie called Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. I guess you had to have seen the movie to understand the irony of a (former?) drug fiend raving about politics. I love Hunter S. Thompson's writing. I enjoyed this article, and I agree with his assessment of Houston, except for the word "shabby". We're kind of dumpy in certain areas, but never shabby. That being said, at this point in time and in my life, I still wouldn't want to live anywhere else on earth! Houston RAWKS, Dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A drug person can learn to handle such things as seeing their dead grandmother crawling up their leg with a knife in her teeth. But no one should be asked to deal with this trip.
