How many times did we get stop short in goal-line situations? Get it done.

Would be a great under-the-radar type of signing.

I think it would be a good signing, and glad the front office is looking to upgrade offense (still think we desperately need to sign a 2nd receiver). I feel like this is the type of pickup that is sort of insignificant now but by the end of the year he is considered one of the best fullbacks in the league.

Could potentially turn out to be a great move.

It is no coincident that Arian's YPC went down every year since 2010.

    Leach (4.9) > Vickers (4.4) > Casey (4.1)

    Great statistic. Thanks Go Korea!

Our running game is the engine that makes our offense go. There were times last year when we were not running the ball effectively and our offense sputtered. Anything we can do to restore the run game to the way it was two years ago would be a big help. Jones is a piece of that. The other piece is the right side of our o-line.

Everyone makes it seem like we signed the guy...Doesn't even seem like we've made him an offer yet.

the last year with Leach, it's no coiencidence that Arian in the red zone was automatic. dude would blow people up on the line and open gaping holes.

people like the throw out the stat for how little the FB is actually employed in the offense. I wish there was weighting for reps in the red zone...

A FB that functions as a FB (ie - blocks, as opposed to Casey's pass catching) can only help the running game.

The fact that Casey's pass-catching didn't really come into play all that much led to a further demise, and undervaluing, of what a FB can really do for this offense.

James Casey had a ton of potential. The Saints game really showed what he could do if Kubiak used him. Unfortunately Kubiak went right back to his standard offense and we got nothing out of Casey. That made him a total waste of a roster spot so I'm glad we are looking for a good traditional blocker.

I just heard Lawrence Vickers may be cut today for cap space. I'd actually want him back over Jones. He was very good in this system and blocks as good as Leech and I think it'd be good to give Arian some familiarity

I still remember that dropped pass by Vickers against the Raiders. He isn't as good as Leach either.

Thats why all he'll do is block, that way he won't take away from anyones touches. I'm still pissed about that dropped game winner against Oakland but he is a sound blocker

That's just not true. Casey was used about as much as he could given the situation, i.e. run oriented team with other viable, and better options (AJ, Daniels and Arian). He had 34 receptions which is only 7 less than Walter and 6 less than Arian...that's nothing to shake a stick at.

I think people overrate his ability. He does have good hands and is a good all around athlete, but I think the "mismatch he creates" is over exaggerated. The separation he got from LBs was not that great as advertised...You own example of the NO game where he had that great catch the LB was running with him step for step, it was just an amazing layout catch.

I do think he will put up some decent stats in Philly and it will be interesting to see how they use him but while he was with the texans, I think they did enough to get him involved and utilize his strengths while hiding his weakness.

While Jones, like most fullbacks, isn't going to be a big receiving threat, he's been targeted 78 times in his career and has made 68 receptions. Compare that to Vickers who has been targeted 97 times and has 58 receptions.
