Anyone who doesn't like George Strait , or at least that he has talent, doesn't know diddly-squat about music. Period.
"Wichita Lineman" - Glen Campbell "Kiss an Angel Good Morning" - Charley Pride "Elvira" - The Oak Ridge Boys "El Paso" - Marty Robbins "You're the Reason Our Kids are Ugly" - Conway Twitty and Lorretta Lynn "When You're Hot Your Hot" - Jerry Reed "She Still Thinks I Care" - George "No Show" Jones "Ruby, Don't Take Your Love to Town" - Kenny Rogers
Hey Good Lookin - Hank Williams My Bucket's Got a Hole in It - " Honky Tonkin - " Crazy - Patsy Cline Walkin' After Midnight - " I Fall to Pieces - " Like a D-O-G - Waylon Jennings Angel Flying Too Close to the Ground - Willie Nelson Blue Eyes Cryin' in the Rain - " Cryin' Shame - Mavericks Lots of Mavericks stuff - Lots of Dwight Yokem 3 Words - K.D. Lang Buck Owens That stuff is actually really good music. That said, I detest most country, with a seething, white-hot hatred. There's just a hate switch that immediately locks on to the pablum for pricks. I should chill about that, maybe meditate or do some yoga. Pricks are people too.
He has talent, but the songs he sings are generally not that good. He is a microcosm of today's Nashville - talented people performing syrupy pop songs with a slight twang. You can hear real country at places like Blanco's, The Firehouse, and Armadillo Palace, not on "country" radio.
you know, i always wrote him off as part of the "frat boy" country rock movement, but i saw him at acl and was i ever wrong. i thought he was great! there is a very fine line b/t what he does and your alt-country uncle tupelo, whiskeytown, sun volt, early wilco.
REK is great, though his vocals are kinda tough on my ears. As a songwriter he's equally adept at funny songs and serious ones. To get back to the original topic, I would list the following country hits as my faves: Hank Sr. - Long Gone Lonesome Blues Waylon Jennings - Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way Johnny Cash - Folsom Prison Blues (Live at Folsom Prison version) Merle Haggard - Mama Tried The Carter Family - Wildwood Flower
I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry- Hank Williams Faded Love- Patsy Cline O Death- Ralph Stanley Hill Country Rain- Jerry Jeff Walker Hurt- Johnny Cash
David Ball "Thinkin' Problem", "Amigo" Dwight Yoakam "I Sang Dixie", "The Late Great Golden State" Buck Owens "Made in Japan" George Strait "Amarillo by Morning", "Ace in the Hole" Don Williams "Good Ole Boys Like Me", "Tulsa Time"

It can't be a true country song unless it has something about prison,a pickup truck, momma,a train, the rain and of course being drunk. Darlin
