I hum the theme to Moon Patrol daily. I think it would sound fantastic as a rock song.

I love video games with great music. A great, well-placed song in a video game can enhance a scene to epic levels. Just tell me that these songs don't have an epic feel to them:

The Sonic the Hedgehog series and the Mega Man series both have amazing music too, but I am too lazy to pull their clips.

 

I know this is cheating since it isn't the *actual* music, but Koji Kondo is pretty much a BAMF and the Zelda soundtracks are always pure brilliance.

All of the Mario Galaxy music. That soundtrack was the best composed one imho. Each planet had very fitting music that was so incredibly catchy.

I like most of Insomniac Games' music. The music from the Ratchet series has always been fun. I ever ripped some to MP3 and listen while coding from time to time. That also goes back to their PS1 series of Spyro the Dragon with Stewart Copeland handling the composition duties. The music for Resistance is meh.

I'll also give a nod to some of the Sly Cooper music as well as the offbeat music of Psychonauts which was fun and meshed well with the odd, fun nature of that game.

This is a topic near and dear to my heart and I am immensely pleased to see the old school well represented here with NES and SNES tunes.

There are way too many to name, but here are some of my personal favorites not yet mentioned in no specific order:

Star Ocean 2: The Second Story (Venerable Forest/Theme of Rena) -- this one will play at my wedding in some form. I'm thinking piano + violin/flute.

Star Ocean 2 also had one of the best overworld themes ever: Field of Nede. Starts off slow but an unbelievable buildup. Listen to it all.

the best soundtrack to any game to this day , gives me goose bumps just thinking about it . Best Series of games ive ever played.

Actually, in general, I like pretty much anything by Shoji Meguro and Akira Yamaoka (Silent Hill, though he's freelance now I think). Also tend to like Yoko Shimomura quite a bit, and of course, there's Nobuo Uematsu...but I haven't really liked much of his more recent stuff (mostly like his work during the SNES/PS1 days, some of which has already been mentioned). Somewhat similar story with Yasunori Mitsuda (mostly like his stuff from CT/CC and Xenogears/Xenosaga).
