You can't tell me vertigo and that hoobastank song are similar because he goes "feeeeeeel" twice.

Oh, and I almost forgot, it may be a trend now, but 20 years ago they were singing "in the naaaaaaaaaaame of love"

Um, Bono’s been singing like that since the early 80s … if anything, today’s singers are ripping him off.

I will say, however, that I did think that Vertigo and All Because of You on the new album did find U2 trying too hard to sound like today’s popular “garage rock” bands (Strokes, Jet, etc.). Bono’s scream on All Because Of You was kind of pathetic, IMO.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. You're right, in the case of The Police, the megalomaniacal lead singer who fell in love with himself only managed to destroy the band, not completely sissify it. If the other band members were more pliable, they'd have been a sissy band. I'd point out that the 3 radio hits on that last album is more than a quarter of the whole thing. And, they were good songs, if you can forget they were symptoms of an evil undercurrent.

Guess you never heard "Bad' then.

That came out in 1985, by the way.

I guarantee it's not the same "note holding" as today's style.

I listened to a lot of U2 back in the '80s. I don't remember iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt.

It's not just the singing. It's the note holding combines with today's style of music. You know it when you hear it. That feeeeel song is the perfect example. Tons of popular bands do it these days. That band Linkin Park did it a lot.

Except they do it differently. Linking Park and hoobastank usually do it on the last words that rhyme in the lines of the chorus.

I've found a reason for meeeeeeeeeeeeee
To change who I used to beeeeeeeeeeee

    It's everything I wish I didn't know
Except you give me something I can feeeeeel

"Live Under A Blood Red Sky" cuz I can't listen to it without thinking about the video from the Concert at Red Rocks.

The video of that Red Rocks show is still one of the greatest pieces of concert footage ever. The low angle shot of the Edge from the back of the stage during the solo to Sunday Bloody Sunday with the crowd going berzerk and the rain...chills.

"The Unforgettable Fire" is a close second and I liked "The Joshua Tree" but, started getting worried when it came out. Sure enough, they put out the steaming pile that is "Rattle and Hum" and embarked on nearly two decades of suckitude.

MC Mark and Futants have my list already written out.

It is strange that I like every single U2 album that would fall in the 'other' category better than any U2 album mentioned by name.
