soul, rock, blues and rap are far less complex than orchestral music or jazz. the power comes, not from the notes and chords you play in combination, but how you play them. the way a bluesman bends his chords or a rock and roll frontman exudes ‘tude. i was reading a story about the producer mitchell froom after he had just finished recording kiko with los lobos. while recording one of the songs, one of the guys in the band was frustrated at not being able to play a certain piano section to his satisfaction. he asks froom to play it instead and he refused saying that there would be no way it would sound right because he would play it a little too fluently and it would lose all its urgency.
First sentence is wrong on all sorts of levels, but the second sentence is spot on. But of course....a man's gotta defend himself!!!!
glad someone has 2pac on there....even if you don't like Rap music you can sit and listen to his lyrics and really see he was a great poet and writer.....
I love 2Pac and you're right, if you sit and listen you can see the 2Pac was a complex character who could make you think.
