Starsky and Hutch The Courtship of Eddie's Father (Harry Nilsson song) The Mary Tyler Moore Show ("Who can turn the world on with her smile...") S.W.A.T. M.A.S.H.
Rockford Files and Underdog are ones I forgot about. Also the Smurfs and Scooby-Doo (the '69 and '70 seasons).
Aqua Teen Hunger Force King of the Hill - I like it soooo much it's the ringtone for my family members Batman Disney shows - just like AntiSonic said.
Cheers Sopranos Duck Tales - thanks for reminding me AntiSonic TMNT - thanks for this one too ER - how perfect was this song for its show? and i probably should give Aqua Teen Hunger Force an honorable mention just because i love how they say the opening "My name is..." and the rest of the song is great as well. edit: and speaking of Cheers' characters singing songs, is there anything better than the gang humming the "green beret" song to keep cliff in america while cliff sends maggie off to canada and then cliff uttering the line "well, women have that extra layer of blubber" after maggie says it'll be cold. the juxtaposition of the song, the sad, dramatic moment, and that line always killed me. then after maggie leaves cliff turns around and finishes out the lyrics. damn that was a good series.
Ah - this topic could use a littmore more of the ubiquitious and oft-mentioned 80s cartoons themes.... - HeMan - SheRa - ThunderCats - MASK (!! two thumbs up for this one just for the pure stickiness of the damn song... Mah mah mah MASK!) - Does Voltron count twice if I include the lion and the vehicle types? - I'd say Transformers the original series too, but there's also a great techno remix version of that. But the movie theme was waaaayyyy cooler than the series.... one season wonders - but man! those themes were rocking! - SilverHawks - Bionic Six And of course... - Inspector Gadget (yes, its not keeping with the flow but how could you not like that kooky theme? Note to Disney - Matthew Broderick needed a prosthetic nose to play Gadget properly ) .... of course they're all so similar that its all getting fused into one hazy but happy memory of vegging out on the couch on saturday morning in front of the tube.... Sidenote: i blame a large part of my high threshold for mangled pop lyrics on listening to great tunes and cheesy lyrics from 80s cartoons... DoD, your selections pretty much hit it on the spot for everything else!
Forgot to mention Buffy, Firefly, and Red Dwarf. I also liked the theme to Deep Space Nine, but not as much as the others I listed. I agree with many previously submitted as well.
Geez, how could I forget Firefly? "I don't care I'm still free You can't take the sky from me." "The Man They Call Jayne" is also a great song.
Charlie's Angels - Mostly because of the Farrah crush Fantasy Island - It just fit the show Love Boat - Fun to sing Alice - I loved to hate this song and sing it to my wife for fun. Makes her laugh Dukes of Hazzard - Just some good ole boys... Laverne and Shirley - Fun to sing as a kid
How about when they sing "Irish Lullabye" over the phone to Carla's kid? That was such a sweet moment.
"she's asleep." "YAYYYYYY!" then they had the whole bar singing "we will rock you" for one of the intros and did the theme from "the magnificent 7" more than once and all sang amazing grace for coach's b*stard of a friend's memorial. cheers knew the group song routine.
