Foo Fighters - Foo Fighters - This Is a Call R.E.M. - Automatic For the People - Drive The Offspring - Smash - Nitro(if you don't count the "Time to Relax" disclaimer as the first track) Live - Mental Jewelry - Pain Lies on the Riverside Live - Secret Samadhi - Rattlesnake Live - The Distance to Here - The Dolphin's Cry In case it wasn't obvious, Live is my favorite band.

I Don't Know- Ozzy Osbourne- Blizzard of Oz (sweet Randy riff) The New Year- DCFC- Transatlanticism Planet Telex- Radiohead- The Bends (can't believe this hasn't been mentioned) I'll have more when I check my CD collection at home. I'm sure you all just can't wait. EDIT Bring The Noise- Public Enemy- Nation of Millions (technically not track 1 but close enough)
argh... good calls... especially cant believe I forgot the great beginning of Over the Mountain...it was such a awesome song to kick off a great album
Don't Panic - Coldplay: Parachutes Don't Know Why - Norah Jones: Come Away With Me Everything In It's Right Place - Radiohead: Kid A So Much To Say - Dave Matthews Band: Crash Here With Me - Dido: No Angel White Flag - Dido: Life For Rent Vindicated - Dashboard Confessionals: Spiderman 2 soundtrack (very good) We Are Alive - Paul Van Dyk: Global Communication - The Cardigans: Lone Gone Before Daylight I Feel You - Depeche Mode: Songs of Faith and Devotion The World In My Eyes - Depeche Mode: Violator My Most Favorite track 1: 2+2=5 - Radiohead: Hail to the Thief
You like Stand Up enough to buy 2 copies?!? I think it is by far the worst DMB studio album released. It is still good, unlike some of the critics say (Maxim gave it 1 star out of five), but I can't see buying it again.
Oh sweet Lord yes. Also "Opera Singer" from Comfort Eagle. "Jacqueline" off of Franz Ferdinand is a great kickoff. And yeah, "This Is A Call" and "2+2=5" are WAY the hell up there. No love for Sgt. Pepper?
I mentioned them. RocketMan Tex - great call on the 2 Who albums - I knew I was forgetting them! Also, "Roundabout" by Yes off "The Fragile" is a great pick and I should have mentioned "The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway" by Genesis off the album of th same name.
There's just too many. I'll go with a few that popped into my head. "Hello There", Cheap Trick ("In Color") "Blitzkrieg Bop", Ramones ("Ramones") "Livewire", Motley Crue ("Too Fast for Love") "Wildflower", The Cult ("Electric") "The Age of Pamparius", Turbonegro ("Apocalypse Dudes") "Twist of Cain", Danzig ("Danzig") "Holy Wars/The Punishment Due", Megadeth ("Rust in Peace") "Caught in a Dream", Alice Cooper ("Love it to Death") "It's Time to Party", Andrew W.K. ("I Get Wet") "Back in the Saddle", Aerosmith ("Rocks")
Holy crap, I was going to mention that one but I wasn't sure anyone else would know that song. Probably my all time favorite Cheap Trick song.
i'm assuming that in order to qualify for a track one, side one, you have to have listened to it on LP? Head East: "Never Been Any Reason" from Flat as a Pancake What? not what you were expecting?
OK what about this one: I Thank You- ZZ Top- Deguello (love that opening riff by Billy. Great way to start their best album ever IMO)
I've been listening to this guy all month, ever since I bought the "Old Grey Whistle Test" DVD: Rory Gallagher, and the best lead-off he has is "Tattoo'd Lady" off my used "Tattoo" LP. Another great one besides that, and I still use it to lead off mix CDs I make, even though it's a seven-minute song: "Love Having You Around," off Stevie Wonder's "Music of My Mind" album. A real cruncher.
Too many to list so i'll just name the first few that come to mind... Seaweed - Antilyrical (Actions and Indications) The Cult - Wildflower (Electric) Jane's Addiction - Up the beach (Nothing's Shocking) _____ The first song can really make or break an album.
