MM, I thought about Zoo Station too, but didn't want to put two U2 songs on there. Isabel pointed out another great U2 track one on The Unforgettable Fire. I really like the two Counting Crows songs mentioned, too.
by the way...my brother-in-law called me two days ago. 15th row for 9/5!! can't...freaking...wait!!!!
You suck. I still haven't got tickets yet, but I'll probably be out on the lawn. I sat out there for the first time last summer and it was a blast! Did you see them at halftime last night?
It was a little highlight montage to Stand Up...highlights blended in with them singing the song at a show. It was cool.
Kelly speaks the truth. "So What" - Miles Davis ("Kind Of Blue") "Wouldn't It Be Nice" - Beach Boys ("Pet Sounds")
Two other songs that get kicked off with a percussion flourish, Cobb's roll on "So What," and that gun-shot from Hal Blaine (I'm guessing) on "Wouldn't It Be Nice." edit: all brothers look the same to me.
Mr. Self Destruct - The Downward Spiral - Nine Inch Nails the first songs from Meddle, Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall, and The Final Cut (Pink Floyd) Synchronicity I - Syhchronicity - The Police Red Rain - So - Peter Gabriel Plainsong - Disintegration - The Cure Where the Streets Have No Name - U2 - The Joshua Tree Pinion - Broken - Nine Inch Nails
I'm sure there are probably alot more in hard rock that I am not listing, but these are just the ones that immediately come to mind from my top bands. Top pick is kinda a combo of two songs.... Hellion/Electric Eye -- Screaming for Vengeance -- Judas Priest Aces High -- Powerslave --Iron Maiden Neon Knights -- Heaven and Hell -- Black Sabbath Hells Bells -- Back in Black -- ACDC Highway to Hell -- Highway to Hell -- ACDC Pull Me Under -- Images and Words -- Dream Theater 2112 Overture/The Temples of Syrinx -- 2112 -- Rush Purple Haze -- Are You Experienced? -- Jimi Running With the Devil -- VH1 -- Van Halen And the Cradle Will Rock -- Women and Children First -- Van Halen edit:..after reading the thread...it occurs to me that I appear to be the only hard rock/heavy metal fan in here these days..oh well...guess I gotta rep for the others.
radiohead - airbag - ok computer wilco - i am trying to break your heart - yankee hotel foxtrot the pixies - debaser - doolittle led zep - I - good times bad times my bloody valentine - only shallow - loveless rem - radio free europe - murmur
mine.. I'm sure some of these have been posted already, but I haven't read all the posts here yet. Baba O'Riley - The Who, Who's Next Speak to Me - Pink Floyd, Dark Side of the Moon The Thrill Of It All - Roxy Music, Country Life Dancing With The Moonlit Knight - Genesis, Selling England By The Pound There are more I'm sure.
I really, really wanted to put at least one Van Halen song on my list, but: 1. It was very, very late when I wrote my post, and 2. Van Halen seems to be more of a Track 2 band
You bastid. We're about to buy our second copy as the fiancee and I always argue about who gets it for the day. I was also thinking about making another thread next week about your favorite track twos, so on and so forth.
alot of my favorite albums are that way...the best songs are either track 2s or on the second side..for some reason HR/HM bands seem to like making you wait for the real good stuff later in the album. Running Witht he Devil was memorable cause I remember sticking that 8 track in, and the first thing you hear is that killer bass beginning..one of my alltime favorite albums..
Off the top of my head: "The Spirit of Radio" Rush - Permanent Waves "Where the Streets Have No Name" U2 - Joshua Tree "Begin the Begin" R.E.M. - Life's Rich Pageant "So What" Miles Davis Kind of Blue "Cliffs of Dover" Eric Johnson Ah Via Musicom (Note: This might not count as there is a very short "intro" piece of noise before this track that has its own track number and title - but Cliffs of Dover is the first actual song on the album) Some runner ups... "I Will Follow" U2 Boy "Sunday Bloody Sunday U2 War "Roundabout" Yes Fragile "Over the Mountain" Ozzy Osbourne Diary of a Madman "First Movement" Beethoven Fifth Symphony "Allegro" Mozart Eine Kleine Nachtmusik
Surprisingly, mine would not. Tune in next week... If live albums counted, Seek Up off the Live at Red Rocks CD would be up there. I also might be the only fan of What's the Frequency, Kenneth? off of Monster.
Prince ~ Let's Go Crazy ~ Purple Rain (it introduced him as a Megastar) Fishbone ~ Freddy's Dead ~ Truth & Soul (kicks off one of the most forgotten, underrated and incredible albums of all time) Jane's Addiction ~ Up The Beach ~ Nothing Shocking (buckle your seat-belts) Bad Brains ~ Sailing On ~ ROIR (you know this something special off the bat) Funkadelic ~ Maggot Brain ~ Maggot Brain (Eddie Hazel fries your brain first, then lets you handle the rest of the album)
