Don't forget to vote in the poll! For me, it's gotta be Super Mario World, which narrowly edges out SMB3. Love that game so much.

Galaxy 2 is so vastly underrated. It is in my opinion, the best game since Ocarina of Time, but Super Mario World encapsulates everything that's good about Mario.
Just the memories of playing SMW sets it apart in my mind. I enjoy many of the Mario games. So many to choose from. Mario Kart, Super Mario 64, SMB3 but the king is SMW without a doubt.
I can't even think of the right one to vote for SMB, SMW, SMB3 are all three simply amazing, and SMB2 isn't very far behind either. It makes me want to go guy them all right now.
The original Super Mario Bro. wins purely for what it did for the home console industry. The game is freakin' legendary. <iframe width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/MiAxiGZKpGQ" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
If it were for Pitfall!, I'd say super mario bros. But honestly Pitfall! was the most enthralling, revolutionary games for the Atari2600, and even super mario bros has to bow down to this game. So I'm going with Mariocart.
no mention of the ORIGINAL "Mario Brothers" arcade game? this platform game introduced Luigi and the concept of the Bros. as plumbers. pipes, turtles, and the POW block were all introduced or hinted in this one as well. the one that was featured in SMB3 as a mini game. for my pick, it's got to be between 2 and 3.
Pitfall is better then Super Mario World? Super Mario World was the best Mario game. It still holds up as one of the best looking Mario games as well. Second close is SM3. That game blew everything out of the water.
^^ and it was introduced in The Wizard, as was the Power Glove. (it's so bad...) I think it's a generational thing, however. I really can't recall playing any of the latter games "to beat them" like when I was a middle schooler playing the first 3 SMB games. I do remember the gameplay of SMW as revolutionary, the 3D concept, and 360 degree rotation, the endless amounts of flying in the sky. I guess that was part of it that overwhelmed me, I could never get into it like when I was younger playing those original games of the Nintendo and Super Nintendo... SMW has no place in nostalgia for me, but then again I never advanced past the Super NES system as a gamer. the last device I bought was a Gameboy SP in 2003 or so. but SMB3, I can picture the maps between levels, the bonus games, mini games, everything. I could probably pick that game up today and win it on sense memory. edit: I realized I was describing Mario 64 as my concept of SMW. I can't recall playing Super Mario World at all really
