    Can it, Ramirez.

I want to see who emerges the victor in this indie battlefight.

Aw, come on moe, you know who the overlord of indie is on this board...the one and only Brightside. Everybody else, you, me, jo mama, Landlord Landry included couldn't hold a candle to him when it comes to discussing the newest Royskopp and/or Ratatat album.

    Manny,

with all due respect. this is between me and jo mama. and believe it or not we are both having fun. I respect the hell out of jo mama. honestly I do. I think(hope) he respects me. we just keep getting hung up on semantics which I promise you will be settled the next time I'm in Austin over a few scotches and a violent thumb war.

there are no hard feelings here.

I do agree that brightside has the upper hand in indie music. I really want to meet that dude one day and talk music, even though I despise 'indie' music.

but seriously.... the last thing this pissing match needs to do is die. It needs to go on forever with an eventual tie.

have you experienced This Will Destroy You's eponymous album Manny?

I dare you to present an album with superior production. :)

I'm only addressing these two issues as I feel the rest is talking in circles.

    I am not a 'post-rocker'

I listen to post-rock and it is my drug of choice. but I have just as big of a passion for dub-step(complete opposite end of the musical spectrum) and IDM as I do for post rock. I ****ing love dub-step and IDM. so am I a dub-steper? or IDMer?

sub-genres do not equate genres. you do realize that post-rock was born out of shoe-gaze via My Bloody Valentine and Slint.......amirite?

so.....in your theory, This Will Destroy You and Balmorhea are shoe-gaze...

there is nothing 'rock' about Balmorhea or Hotel Hotel. It's because people think........'OMGZ they are instrumental........instrumental=post-rockers"

Balmorhea and Hotel Hotel have elements of post-rock. That doesn't mean they are post rock.

    hello 'sub-genre'

do you think HD4000 is dub? or dubstep?

lets get a beer. I will kill you at thumb war.

As far as I'm concerned, if it rocks and I like it, I could give two ****s about how it is classified.

i had no intention of rehashing this tired argument, but since landlord called me out by name i am more than happy to continue it.

indie rock is lame and i am the overlord of black metal on this board.

    really?
if i said "i mostly listen to punk rock" i would be a punk rocker. if i said "i mostly listen to hip-hop" i would be a hip-hopper.

but a sub-genre is part of the larger genre. you are getting a little ridiculous w/ all your categorizations and sub-genres here. by the time you are done each band will be its own individual genre and what use is that to anyone?

the mogwai/explosions side that you listen to was influended by mbv, but that is not where the term post-rock was first used or came to prominence. and mbv was never referred to as "post-rock" while they were active. that term only came to prominence in the mid-90's w/ tortoise and other chicago-based groups.

    not really.
im just going off your post where you said 'neo-classical' and 'drone' were sub-genres of post rock. again, a sub-genre is part of the larger genre so if you dont like it dont refer to them as belonging to the larger genre.
